I didn’t get to make a post celebrating the 30th anniversary of Child’s Play, so I figured better late than never.
Child’s Play came out before I was born, but when I was old enough to discover horror movies, it quickly became one of my all time favorites. Going into it I already had love for Katherine Hicks because I watched 7th Heaven regularly, but my love for her skyrocketed once I was exposed to Child’s Play. As a child who had experienced her parents divorced and had seen the struggles of a single mother, something about the plot of this movie hit me in a very personal spot; a single mom trying to afford the one birthday gift that her son really wanted and struggling to make ends meet, making many sacrifices to put his happiness first. It felt familiar and honestly made me pretty sad. That may be where my fondness for horror came from, finding a place of solace and safety in a genre that you normally wouldn’t suspect.
Aside from all that, I just thought it was freaking scary and cool that a doll could be a killer.
So thank you to all of those who brought this movie, and this franchise, to life, because it always has been and always will be one of my favorites.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any images of these two on set, but while there was murder, gore, mayhem, and utter chaos, two people found love. And those two people were Kevin Yagher and Catherine Hicks. What started with flirting ultimately became a passion for one another that still lasts to this day. It was really cool talking to Kevin about working on CHILD'S PLAY and this was definitely something I wanted to cover when I interviewed him a year ago. I'm so glad that your relationship is still strong to this day and I send my love to you and Catherine. Here's to you two!

(TRIVIA by IMDb)
The first draft of the script was completed in the summer of 1985 and referenced 'CHUCKY' as 'BUDDY' who came to life after mixing blood with 'ANDY' and killed those against 'ANDY' (for example, the babysitter and teacher) manifesting (ANDY'S) loneliness and isolation from an overworked mother and absent father. In addition to being a more psychologically driven horror film, 'BUDDY' also only came alive at night when 'ANDY' was asleep.
The original working title for the film was "BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED" before it became known STEVEN SPIELBERG was also making a film with the same title. It was then changed to "BLOOD BUDDY" before settling on "CHILD'S PLAY".
Original writer DON MANCINI stated in an interview that his original script toyed with the audience a bit longer, making them wonder if young 'ANDY' was the killer rather than 'CHUCKY'. This idea was used by KEVIN TENNEY in "PINOCCHIO'S REVENGE" (1996).

Hi everyone, this is a video for an upcoming project called GRUMMY by Micheline Pitt and R.H. Norman. It's definitely an interesting project featuring the work of some great artists including my friend and creature creator Kevin Yagher along with dark artist Chet Zar and Jorge Gutierrez, the man who brought us EL TIGRE and THE BOOK OF LIFE. I'll do all I can to spread the word like I did with MAKING APES, and as you know, I was very invested in that project and now I hope to help Micheline and R.H.'s project become a reality as well. The link is in my profile and please spread the word, you don't want to miss out on this.
