➡️The one MUST HAVE piece of equipment for your gym!!! . . Well, maybe not 'must have' but a water bottle can really come in handy when trying to get maximal tension on a 1-arm press. How? Via Sherrington's Law of Irradiation. Basically, muscles can recruit the tension of nearby muscles to increase their own tension and produce greater force. In comes that empty water bottle. Here's how to put it to work: . ✊When going for a heavy press, squeeze the bottle in your free hand for dear life. Try to pop the cap off that sucker! . 💪The tension from gripping your hand tightly on the bottle will increase the tension in your forearm. . 🏋️‍♀️In turn, it will continue the tension up the chain and contribute to increased tension and force production in the pressing arm. It's almost miraculous!💫 . This works best in conjunction with tension in the glutes and abs. Imagine crushing walnuts 'tween them cheaks and bracing your abs like you're about to get a punch to the gut. It’s been 7 weeks into training for the @strongfirst #tacticalstrengthchallenge . I started at 2 body weight pull-ups and I’ve progressed to 8. I’m not at my goal yet, but I’m getting there. * A lot of times people want an over-night success. (I mean really, who wouldn’t love that?) Whether it be learning a new skill, cooking a new meal you’ve never tried before, coaching a sport for the first time, etc. We want to be shown or taught something expecting to get it down 100% the first try, and that rarely happens... * Reaching your goals takes time. It takes focus. It takes consistency. And it takes a positive attitude regardless of the day to day outcomes of your efforts. Some days you’ll feel like you’re just not getting it. You’ll contemplate throwing in the towel. You’ll say “maybe this isn’t for me”. Other days you’ll get such an adrenaline rush you’ll crush whatever practice you had that day. * For me, some days I feel like there’s no way I’ll ever front squat my goal weight, because where I’m at now feels ridiculously heavy. Other days I feel like I could go REPS more. It’s the days where I feel like I’m using everything ounce of energy where I have to step back and realize that two things are about to happen... * I’m either going to finish my workout thinking to myself “so much for that crazy idea, why did I think this was possible?” OR “wow, that weight was tough BUT, remember where you were 7 weeks ago. Remember that your consistency is serving it’s purpose. You struggled for 2 pull-ups and now you’re getting 8 with another 6 weeks of training to go! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!”. * 7 weeks of training so far. I’m not where I want to be. But I’m further along than I was yesterday, or the week before that. Or the week before that. So I’m going to go ahead and call that success. Tamara absolutely smashed her session last night! We had a combination of girevoy kettlebell lifting, hardstyle kettlebell (see workout below) and to finish it off we got the tyre flipping with some skipping. What this woman achieves now is absolutely amazing and the 2nd part to her workout is one of the toughest 10minute workouts I have completed. ⬇️ Give it a go ⬇️ 2 Kettlebells needed 60 snatches (one hand exchange) 1 min rest 10 pushups 1 min rack hold 30 double swings 30 double presses or jerks 30 double squats The aim is to not put the bells down! Kettlebells were the first form of strength training (using some type of weight implement) that I ever did. I was lucky enough to have a dad who purchased a set of kettlebells when I was in middle school. We still use them today. We are also very lucky to live in a time where we can access information about their use. I tried to make sense of one of Pavel Tsatsouline’s books but it’s amazing to be able to utilize YouTube to find great exercises using kettlebells. If you’ve never used them, you should give them a swing.

S-T-R-E-E-E-T-C-H!!! Just doing a few stretches before I work out this evening. It's something I don't like doing, I hate warming up 🔥 but I've learnt to do it properly because I really don't want to pick up any more injuries. So...5 minutes of Jumping Jacks, jogging on the spot and stretching is worth the boredom 😆!! . As always I kicked off with 100 x 12kg swings. Did some goblet squats but I was too impatient to start my favourite exercise - the SNATCH 💣 . Weirdly even though my left shoulder is still not 100% better, I'm so much better snatching with my left hand than my right. Everything's going really well, I'm finding more strength now that I'm improving my technique. After 10+ years in the business, and continual investment, I've accrued a fair bit of equipment.......and this is a very small part of it. - What can I do? I like new shiny things....😍 - But moreover, the Train Strong crew benefit through having all that they need. - There is a saying I like. - "Make do, wont do." - Not if things really matter anyway. In my book.
So thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and buy myself a step! Did a quick YouTube search and found a great (but knackering) step workout by @puzzle_fit. Tt really isn’t as easy as it looks😅
KETTLEBELL FLOW. I wanted to create a simple kettlebell flow that hits every movement - upper push, upper pull, lower push, lower pull - and would also challenge stability. I came up with this. 1. Step clean. 2. Reverse lunge with overhead press. 3. Bent over row. I'll probably do timed sets with this. 30 seconds on one side, 30 seconds on the other, rest for 30 seconds, repeat. 10 rounds of that would make a decent 15-minute workout.
Took the 80lber for a ride today and it felt great. Finished my regular workout and I've been really feeling my squats lately, so I took advantage of it. #gettingstronger #kettlebells #squats #rockyshirt #letsgooo
