“Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 NKJV The state of your heart affects the overflow of your spirit. It’s not just your mental health that is important, your emotional health is equally important too!
In fact your emotions are so powerful that they too can affect your physical health. For instance did you know that anger can cause short term and long term health problems? Let alone headaches, but digestion problems, such as abdominal pain, insomnia, increased anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, skin problems. Chronic anger can increase your heart-attack and stroke risk. It can also weaken your immune system.
No wonder the Apostle Paul admonishes is in Ephesians 4:26 “do not let the sun go down on your wrath,”. The Psalmist says “Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret it only causes harm.” Psalms 37:8
The Message puts it in a way the millennials can understand:
“Bridle your anger, trash your wrath, cool your pipes, it only makes things worse.” Psalm 37:8
“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37
Forgiveness is not just a commandment for us, it is therapeutic for those who practice it.
Bitterness, guilt, condemnation and all other negative emotions make sure they don’t take a hold of your soul.
Guard the environment of your spirit! “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
Let the Joy of the Lord be your Strength and surround yourself with people who bring you joy!
