"In Darkness" from the year 2018
(101 minutes, thriller)
Blind pianist Sofia overhears a struggle in the apartment on the floor above her, and it leads to the death of her neighbor Veronique. It is the start of a journey that pulls Sofia out of her depth and brings her into contact with Veronique's father, a Serbian businessman accused of being a war criminal.
"What a stupid movie", was what I thought when finished watching.
I watched this film because I was interested in the premise.
The camera is one of the only things that is interesting in this movie. The way the sound something increases as well as the stady cinema is used to protray her blindness.
In the start I thought the detective, played by Neil Maskell, would be super annoying, but it turned out he was actually my favourite character, since he wasn't in the main mafia plot line which was predictable and unimaginative.
The romance is handled okay, but could need some improvements.
The ending is just really stupid!
Firstly, Sofia being on some mission to kill the father is a stupid. Sofia not actually being blind is super stupid. Did she only acted blind, but she did so all the time? If she could see, why didn't she pick up the poison or fight more efficiently? Or did her convince herself she was blind, which doesn't make any sense, and it came back when she killed the person who murdered her family. And why did she even pretend to be blind in the first place?
Is doesn't make any sense to me! If you have any answer to these questions, please write them in the comments since I truly want to understand this movie...
All in all, I would only recommend this film to people who want to watch a movie with an interesting concept but mediocre execution and a stupid ending.
