READING PROMPTS - our Comprehension Posters are up and ready to go. I got the original posters from @ell.educates

Some first day favourites!
Our Arctic Day last week was so much fun. One of our favorite activities was playing Addition Fact Don’t Break the Ice❄️ I simply wrote addition facts on each block. The students had to say the answer before they could tap out the block. ❄️Read all about our Arctic Day on the blog. https://funinfirst.com/arctic-adventure-day

How cute would this little mailbox craft be as a card 💌 & candy 🍫holder for Valentine’s Day?! 💗 Simply glue it onto lunch bag and set it up sideways! 📬 You can find this craft at the link in my profile or http://bit.ly/CupcakeSPFeb 💕
Thanks to an unexpected snow day for cold temps I got my morning tubs set up again. We are continuing to review symmetry and number representation. You can find a link to my morning tub tasks in my profile.
One of my FAVORITE social/emotional books!! 📚 Have you read The Invisible Boy with your students? If you haven’t, it’s definitely a must read!!
I used to think I was doing it right when I pulled out the cutesy MLK lesson for MLK Day. Now I know that one day, one month out of the year is not nearly enough to teach about important figures like MLK and so many others. If you’ve made the same mistake and want to do better in the future, this biography series is amazing. They are sort of graphic novel style, so super engaging, and our kids are loving learning about a wide range of influential people. I’ll throw an affiliate link in my profile if you want to check these amazing books out. ❤️❤️❤️
This lesson plan and running record goes along with a Level A passage from my Winter Guided Reading packs. Focusing on specific sight words, vocabulary and types of words, readers are set up for success before reading the text on their own.
Work work is an important piece of guided reading as it builds confidence in readers before they’re required to apply their knowledge of new words in context!

Each Monday, we start new morning tubs. This little sweetie was so proud that they built all 10 words before it was time to clean up! Keep reading for the down low on our morning tubs!
We always practice the next week’s morning tubs on Friday afternoon. I place one tub on each table and set the timer for 15 minutes. After the timer beeps, we rotate the tubs. I have four table groups, so this gives me a good hour of planning time to prepare my lessons for the next week. This is literally the best thing I have done to help give me a little extra planning time, so I don’t have to stay late on Friday!
I like that these morning tubs focus on literacy and math skills, as well as fine motor! Plus, they keep the kiddos engaged so that I can do all the morning things! Did I mention that they are easy clean up and that there is no response sheet?! Let me know in the comments what your morning work looks like.

You want to know what’s funny about others’ beliefs. We let them control us, guide our decisions, and we worry so darn much about them. But why?! What other people think of us doesn’t control our potential, the effort we invest, or the progress we make. So why do we care so much?
When I first became a coach my fear of others’ beliefs set in. What would my coworkers think? Would my family agree with my decision? Would people on social media think I was just another person trying to sell a product?
Then I realized, why does it matter what others think? The pure joy I feel when connecting with my challenger every day is what matters. The sense of accomplishment I feel when completing my workout is what matters. The heart filling feelings I get when I lead a team training, go live in my coach group, or have a one-on-one call with one of my squad sisters is what matters! When I put aside my fears of what others thought, I became my true self.
Imagine where you would be if you put others’ beliefs behind you. What could you accomplish if you put yourself first? Why focus on them, when you could focus on yourself? I am here for you. My team is here for you! If you are ready to take this leap of faith together, please comment below! You never have to do this coaching or working out thing alone girlfriend!
My students are going to be EXCITED to see this in the room tomorrow morning!! 👏👏
Here’s a quick meet the teacher for all my new followers!.
My names Mandie but you can call me Mrs. Wills 😉. I teach first grade and I am IN LOVE with this career. Teaching is my passion and I take my job extremely seriously.
My classroom and teaching is always extremely intentional. We giggle, make jokes, make connections, learn and grow EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
I am a FIRM believer that a kid is a KID. They make mistakes. They learn from them. And they NEVER forget how you make them feel.
Teaching is truly my passion and for whatever reason you’re following me I am so thankful for that. I am so appreciate that you spend your time scrolling and just happen to be a supporter of my page.
And if you actually read all of that comment a 💕 so I can give you a big ole’ virtual hug!!
They never get tired of my longass stories. They make me laugh until my stomach hurts. They don’t judge me, and when they do it’s for my own good. They accept me for who I am, flaws, virtudes and celebrity obsessions included. They are coworkers that became friends ♥️👩🏻🏫👩🏽🏫👩🏽🏫♥️

Fluency. One area I have not done my best with this year. I always struggle with what I want my students to practice reading while working on building their fluency. I was doing nursery rhymes and poems for awhile but... starting tomorrow something new is coming! These fluency phrases work on reading simple 3 word phrases. We will practice them together and then work on seeing how many we can read within a time frame. The roll and read sheets are perfect for independent work while students work on this skill. I’m going to print the cards and put them on a ring for easy storage I’m really excited to give these a try and hope this will help my students become more confident with their reading. Click the link on my bio to see the cards in my store . . . . . https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fluency-Phrases-4322904

Today is not just a “day off.” Our students need to know this.
Last week, we celebrated the life and lessons of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with read alouds, deep discussions, and a powerful visit from Mayor Franklin. We were filled with pride listening to Dr. King’s voice as he spoke of change. We researched our questions and were often shocked reading the answers. We cried and held hands as we learned about the sacrifices made by so many. We had long talks that made us feel all kinds of things but...each of us grew, knowing there is still more work to be done.
