#fourseasonsyogis day 15: Handstand 🙌🏼 From down dog kick up gently bending one knee as an option or split legs like I’ve shown here. I usually stay here for a few seconds balancing my hips over my shoulders. Than zip up the core and inner thighs and bring the legs together. Of handstand is not in your practice, modify using a wall, facing either way. Try an L shape with feet on the wall and hips at a right angle with shoulders above the wrists. Handstands bring the awareness to the present moment and reverse the energy flow in our bodies. New obsession: my @hidratespark. As someone who sweats A LOT, i find it difficult to keep up with the amount of water I should be consuming. 3 easy ways into Anterior Pelvic Tilt.🦋 This time posting with words 😂 . . Goodness people, pressed the button too quickly the first time!How to manoeuvre into anterior pelvic tilt when upside down is one of the keys to entering into split legs forearm stand effortlessly. Here are three tips for developing a more fluid entry into anterior pelvic tilt 🙂. . . 1️⃣Practice cat / cow breathing. This movement is the nucleus of every pose you will enter into in yoga. The entry into anterior and posterior pelvic tilt simultaneously teaches you how to find balance between pranic and apanic energy - the fulcrum between stability and lightness. Inhale as you lift the tailbone and chin up as you draw your gaze to the ceiling. Learn to open up and ease the hold on the hip flexors as you look for length cross the spine. Exhale as you draw the chin in and tuck the tailbone in. Draw the energy back towards the centre - that space below the belly button that connects with the pelvic floor. Practice this everyday and at least 3 set of five inhale/exhale breaths. 2️⃣Puppy Pose 🐶with elbows on blocks and palms together. To enter into anterior pelvic tilt in split legs pincha requires very open shoulders and upper back! This is essentially an inverted back extension posture so shoulders need to open and upper back needs to be able to arch successfully. This Puppy Pose variation is my favourite Yin pose for opening up shoulders 3️⃣ Flexible hip flexors/Psoas. Nothing gets this done like the wheel pose 😮If you want a more relaxing version, recline on a Swiss ball and just allow the arms to externally rotate as the overhang behind you and rest on the ball. Soooo easy and you will get the stretching benefits for the psoas as you will be totally relaxed and without the workload on the shoulders. . Here’s my Urdhva Kukutasana. (Swipe right to see the full pose demonstrated by the inspiring @laurelvanyogagardener ). It can be really frustrating when you can’t make a certain shape, but for me, an advanced practice is practicing from a place of awareness and forgetting about what the pose is “supposed” to look like or how it looks in another person’s body. I’m accepting my limitations and learning from them. They give me information and create safe boundaries to push off of. For now I’m working on getting into half padmasana (while upside down) and opening the hips. Once I accomplish that, then I can focus on “finding the full expression of the pose”.

Day 7 of #AuguStands and I’m still (head) standing! Leg variation: Straddle After seeing the photo of my uneven straddle I started playing with bringing alignment to it. I believe this happens because one hip is tighter than the other. I was able to make some slight adjustments and it improved. Taking more time to work on upper body strength and inversions while my hamstring is in recovery. 🤸🏼‍♀️ . Leg lifts from dolphin 🐬 help activate my core, shoulders, and back muscles before moving into a 3 set headstand practice. I’ve enjoyed playing with these different ways of getting into Sirsasana as a set because each one requires a different type of focus and muscle engagement at the start. Still working towards vertical alignment, but I’m confident that the extra attention to upper body strength will help support this! 💪🏼 . What are you working on right now in your physical practice? So I don’t know what it was about today but I tried to get upside down and just couldn’t keep my balance. I guess maybe my mind isn’t on my my mat 🤷🏻‍♀️ So I decided to stop and I’ll try again tomorrow. Sometimes we have off days and we don’t perform at our best. Today was one of those «bad handstand days ». Handstands are mostly a matter of concentration, so I guess I just wasn't able to focus well. .....therapy. I don't know what it is with these handstands lately. Lol! I bounce between different aerial sports so I guess these are having their run through. I'm enjoying the creativity of it all though. I've been asked by a couple people about how I started this. I am self teaching. These are a byproduct of my aerial and PiYo practices. I'm just beginning really. I don't have the core or back control as yet to not need props for safety and protection, so I find these spaces to practice the moves. My trick?
