Nature’s autumnal fire was definitely not ablaze today. Nothing but shades of grey carpeted the skies and the warm breezes of summer are now errant and chilled and seep into the marrow of my bones.
The usual virescent hues that mottle the countryside this time of year felt muted and the air smelled dull and depressing. Even the leaves that usually look as though they’re swirling and waltzing and putting on their autumn show seemed more like they were straining against the cruel finale of their short-lived life.
I may as well have been running through a leaf-carpeted graveyard today. I mean I usually like to project my own version of aesthetics on the season of fall but let’s call it for what it is: a moribund season of fading life that is equal parts melancholy and forlorn. Winter is coming and that kinda makes me crotchety AF is what I’m trying to say. #socheerful
Today’s race mantra was one that I adapted after something that I saw @oiselle_sally
had used: “This race has hills, my life has hills, I am the hill.”🎢 I felt so unprepared for them and couldn’t help but go through all of the things that I should’ve done differently in my training. But you know what? Finally, around mile 9 (yes, it took that long!), I finally started to focus on the things that I did *right* — including, perhaps the highest achievement! — keeping up with my PT and nursing my spring hip injury back into racing. I’m so proud of this race, this process, and so, so proud of my body. ⚡️ Until the next one... Runner’s World Half Marathon ✅ (Full race recap coming soon!) 💻 And PS, special shout out to my favorite #wingman

Exactly one year and 2 months ago I logged my first "run." The Couch to 5K was too difficult for me at the time, so I created my own intervals of 30 second jog/4.5 min walk. It's been a hell of a journey, but today I ran my first half marathon! It was an AMAZING experience! First time really experiencing that runner's high. I was bouncing and dancing at the end. There were some really ugly moments during my training, but today was great. No real pain. Never hit the wall. I just hit my stride and ran. I couldn't have done this without @hogwartsrunningclub
and the truly amazing IRL friends I've made through this virtual running club. Running today with @j_schuett12
and Allie was perfect. It was sad to lose our fish (@jen61215
) at the 10k split off point. Looking forward to more fun races and firsts with these ladies! #running #run #runningisbetterwithfriends #longrun #morningrun #sundayrunday #halfmarathon #imarunner #pr #hogwartsrunningclub #onehrc #hrc #featherandcookie
First run of the winter run series, The Pumpkin Run 5k, ended with an age group win!!🤗🥇

Running Streak Day 659 ran into a couple of runners who looked like they over trained a little! 💀🙄💀... I am feeling a lot better but still taking it easy. I’m confident with my training and will just keep the legs fresh heading into the Marathon! #tcsnycmarathontraining #runeveryday
Tough Runner Swansea Epic 10k
What a morning!!! Loved it!! Beautiful part of the world!!! Hilly, scenic, streams, falls, bridges, lakes, more hills, puddles!!!! Such an awesome event!!!
Marshalls, volunteers, and supporters strewn around the whole course. They all made a huge difference. Thanks all very much!!
Very very tough 2nd half of the race. Like a rollercoaster at times, straight up!!! Definitely want to be doing one of these again!!
Welcome to 39. Your body now likes to remind you that you aren't in your 20's anymore. Enter: Compression socks.
Even though I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews on the benefits of compression socks I’m finding myself struggling through some fatigue when increasing the miles and wanted to see if they help.
Anyway, I didn’t realize you get your calves measured for optimal squeeziness. How fancy is that you guys? My calves felt like they were getting fitted for a goddam wedding dress. All 13 inches of them. Except this time no one was scolding them for gaining a little weight and messing up the tailoring.
And not gonna lie. I kinda like how they feel. Sort of like a warm and cozy hug for my legs. And if they can also help with speeding up recovery, I’ll take it. Even if it's all placebo. Because 39 yo! Did I mention my body likes to remind me that I'm not in my 20's anymore?
Life is a series of highs & lows. It's the resiliency we demonstrate through the journey, while weathering the valleys, that make us more appreciative when we climb our way back to the top.
Don't be afraid to sit in the lows & experience every bit of it, should you need to. Furthermore, don't let anyone ever push you or make you feel guilty for however long it takes you to recover.
In the same way, don't be afraid of pushing through and grinding harder to get out of it. Sometimes you just bounce back faster. However, you choose to make it out of the lows, know that it's gonna take some effort & strength to come out on top. But when you do, let me tell you - it's a beautiful view from the top. 📷 by @AlexPardus
Running Streak Day 658 done! 5k to start the day. Right calf feels about 70% with two weeks until the marathon! Confident I will be ready to go! #tcsnycmarathontraining
You know how sometimes married people do things on purpose just to annoy each other? My husband’s pet peeve is when I transport my gym equipment to various other locations in the house that are not the gym. So naturally I like to lug my weights upstairs from the basement and leave them all over the floor for him to trip and stub his toe on. Get’s him every time. 🙌🏼
I really didn’t want to run this morning, it’s like now the half is done I’ve lost some motivation. I did run on Thursday but it was a short 2 miles due to time restraints (I didn’t even bother posting about it) and today I really just couldn’t be bothered. The first mile was supper slow and for the first time ever I actually almost just stopped 🙈 but I’m not a quitter and as I hit 1 and a half miles I started to feel the benefits and felt the rest of the run was quite strong. I think I’m going to focus on speed and hills during my short 4 mile runs (I’m still trying not to run less than four despite Thursdays shit run) with one longer run each week. This is kind of what I did during training but I didn’t focus on speed or hills I was just trying to keep running and get my fitness up. Does this seem like a realistic plan? Will I actually start improving? 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve no idea what I’m doing really! #veryamateurrunner #pushthroughthemeh
