In the light of the recent political 'he said she said' and for those that question why ANY woman would wait to come forward if they were sexually #assaulted
. Well, here's my take on the possible reasons.
A young woman at the time most likely #afraid
Fearful of #retaliation
of the accused and his friends if by some chance her parents allowed her to attend that school.
Questioning herself as to the events, 'her part' was she drinking, did she flirt, what was she wearing? NONE OF THOSE IS AN INVITATION FOR UNWANTED PHYSICAL/SEXUAL CONTACT...PERIOD! And these questions she would have surely faced by her parents, law enforcement and school administrators (30 plus years ago). Believing she could overcome this #traumatic
experience by keeping her head down, focus on her education, move on and "just forget about it". As the years passed, #suffering
in silence isn't a sign that all is well. What appears to be 'well adjusted' has become a new normal.
Maybe because after years of faking 'all is well'
Being tired of recurring #suicidal
Tired of not being able to have a longterm relationship without a reliving the trauma.
Maybe she is no longer afraid, no longer questioning herself, and not giving a shit what others think.
And most of all...maybe NOW because she will be HEARD!
Sometimes raising our #voices
is the only #justice
to be had.
I raised mine.
