Last Saturday I had the privilege of photographing the last ever event held in the Wright Venue before it’s doors were closed for the final time. Unlike others working the night, the first time I was ever in the superclub was two weeks prior. Seeing the reaction of the staff, Dj’s and organizers the emotion and tears showed me this was a lot more than just a club to them. The night which I photographed was a teenage disco, and I was blown away by everything about it. In my own experience of teenage discos back when I went to them they were nothing more than a DJ in a rugby club. The teenage discos in wrights were organized incredibly, the energy from the crowd was insane, they had headliners the kids were mad for and several up and coming DJ’s over the many rooms in the venue. It is a real shame kids in the future won’t get to experience one of these discos, I know I would have loved it in my younger years. A massive shout out to @caoimha.lp
genuinely never seen anything like them, she created something magic for so many people! I had never been to an overage event in Wrights but based on the calibre of acts they brought in, it’s a massive blow to the industry, not just nightlife but the local DJ’s who got exposure to crowds playing before these international acts. With the closure of other clubs in Dublin the nightlife is at a point where it is dying for those young and old. Changes need to be made to legislation regarding nightclubs in Ireland or this will just continue to happen. . . . . .
