Should pharmacists (and other health care professionals such as doctors) wear white coats? 👨‍⚕️ It’s still popular to wear lab coats as a pharmacist abroad from what I can see (like the US). In Poland and Latvia, I’ve seen lab technicians wear white coats too! ➡️ Approachability- a white coat may make pharmacists seem less approachable by the public, particularly in community. It can be quite intimidating to see and may cause 'white coat syndrome'. 😳 The patient experiences hypertension in the clinical setting (maybe due to subconsciously feeling uncomfortable). Naturally, I have low blood pressure, but it's normal when I go to the GP! ➡️ Professionalism- in my opinion, a white coat looks very professional. Many people are also more likely to trust a person wearing a white coat for this reason. Trust is key!! Having worked in a community pharmacy, I know that pharmacists don’t always dress professionally 😯 and I have seen some come in wearing dresses and playsuits that are far too short ❌ - if they all wore a white coat, this would no longer be an issue, although I think the core dress code should also be upkept. ➡️ Identity- a patient that sees someone wearing a white coat will be able to recognise who they are and their position. This is usually good I think, as they instantly know who to go to for help. It may however, alienate 👽 other staff members without white coats- who gets to wear them, and who doesn’t? ➡️ Infection control- white coats *may* be an infection risk because they tend to be washed less frequently. They are also long sleeved which is against the ‘bare below the elbow’ policy in hospitals 🏥. They may however, help reduce the spread of infection- it protects the wearer from getting infections, bodily fluids and dirt on their own clothes, which they bring home. ➡️ Religion ✡🕉 - whenever introducing dress codes and uniforms such as white coats, beliefs should be considered to ensure that everyone would be happy to comply. ➡️ Behaviour- ever put on a new outfit and suddenly you feel extra confident? 🤩 Could wearing a white coat have this effect on pharmacists and is it always positive? [I'm so awful at art sorry people 😂 I tried.]
6:21pm...I’m such an ugly crier 😂😭 Fuck this constant pain and shaking that’s making me unable to eat, sleep, walk, bathe, brush my teeth, wash my hair, get dressed/undressed. I really wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to talk through some possible near future tests and treatments but I don’t think I can walk to the practice where it’s held even though it’s just 5 minutes away. I’m fully unaided at this point in time and I’m not going to lie to you, I’m embarrassed of the person I am. I know I shouldn’t be. I know it’s not my fault that I’m sick. And yet, some people’s ignorance trigger something in me to make me believe their negative comments. My #pots related shakes are now next to uncontrollable and it makes eating and drinking difficult but I try not to show it because I don’t want to make my family feel bad. On 7/24/18 I started my journey weighing in at 198lbs. I was obese for my frame with stage 4 or severe hypertension at 212/133. That was the main reason for making the decision to take part in this program. I wasn't the least bit interested in taking the recommended meds they offer to control hypertension. I wanted to see if first I could do something about it without them. Parents, young athletes dying of sudden cardiac failure is relatively rare, but can happen. Cardiac deaths in young U.S. athletes, can result from blunt trauma that structurally damaged the person's heart, Commotio cordis, a blow to the chest that interrupts the heart's beating, and heat stroke. A diagnosis can be difficult as the first symptom of a problem can be cardiac arrest or sudden death. As parents, we want to protect our children. Parents of children that receives routine health care and are not known to have any kind of heart condition, the chances are very small. A quick cheeky low fat family favourite, Sweet Potato Turkey Chilli 🌶 1. Grate up a carrot, peeled sweet potato and courgette. 2. Add to a diced onion gently frying with 300g of minced turkey. 3. Lightly sauté with a minced garlic clove or two for 5 minutes. 4. Add a tin of tomatoes, 1/2 tsp of chilli powder, a stock cube and a pinch of nutmeg. 5. Lightly simmer for 20 minutes. 6. A small victory! Probably just water weight, but I will take it! Little by little this weight will come off. Breakfast was two 5 inch whole wheat pancakes with 1 TBS of sugar free syrup, salad for.lunch, chicken/veg for dinner. Smaller portions is my new friend! My diet will be tweaked as I go and will consist of more protein, healthy fats, fiber, and vegetables. Carbs will be at a minimum after breakfast. Today, I will be going to the gym for a bike ride and a few weights and sit ups on the ball. I am making changes to my daily schedule to fit in working out. I am.making this happen! A recent 16-week study of overweight and obese men and women with hypertension found that lifestyle modifications can decrease the need to take medicine. There are three things we can do to lower our salt intake. First, don’t add salt at the table. A third of us add salt to our food before even tasting it. Number two: stop adding salt when cooking. At first, the food will taste bland. Two to four weeks later, however, the sensitivity of the salt taste receptors in the mouth will adjust to the taste of salt in the usual concentrations.  Believe it or not, but after two weeks, you may actually prefer the taste of food with less salt. - Even if you do add salt, though, it’s probably better than eating out, where even at non-fast food restaurants, they tend to pile it on. And finally, avoid processed foods that have salt added. - If we do buy processed foods, there are two tricks we can use. First, try to only buy foods with fewer milligrams of sodium on the label than there are grams in the serving size. So, if it’s a 100 gram serving size, it should have less than 100mg of sodium. You know when the nurse straps the rubber cuff around your arm and if your like me you think it’s goes just a little tooo tight 😂😂 ⠀ ⠀ Well it’s time you knew your numbers, the numbers you have no idea what they actually are! ⠀ ⠀ Why? ⠀ Because blood pressure is linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, kidney failure, obesity, glaucoma and Dementia⠀ ⠀ So there’s allot we can prevent right? ⠀ ⠀ So the ideal numbers are the top number to be below 120 this is the systolic and the bottom number to be below 80 the diastolic ⠀ ⠀ Pre hypertension is 120-139/80-89mmhg If you want to reduce this there are many natural ways including these In accordance with the heart foundation we should be 1. Consuming Mainly plant based foods ⠀ 2. Exercising 30 mins a day ⠀ 3. Intaking omegas of EPA and DHA over 1 gram! Hold on don’t buy any yet I’ll do a post about this too! There’s allot of issues with most fish oils! ⠀ ⠀ So next time you go to the doctors and have your blood pressure checked make a note of it! It’s time to know your numbers!
Something I learned in my therapy for Binge Eating Disorder is that snacking is ok, especially for somebody who needs to eat a bit more routinely to prevent bingeing. Ideally, for me, I need to eat in a pattern of breakfast - snack - lunch - snack - dinner - snack (if needed). I chose this today for my morning snack. All whole food ingredients, no junky fillers.
