I may have talked about this topic before: that I observed a certain disconnect between Instagram and the real-er life of individuals and the state of their skin. While Instagram might give readers the idea that if only we follow a few knowledgeable reviewers for a month or two, we will learn about all our best options, best brands, and our skin issues will finally be put to bed. Unfortunately distortions happen. What I experience as a skincare advisor and product choice advisor is that many customers are wise and learn that not all shiny glass is gold (for them). They share with me insights they have arrived at: that great effective products may not smell floral, and in fact the scents may take some getting used to. That they don't want to and don't see a need to apply 7 layers of products twice a day. That while an opulent tropical scent in a balm at first took their breath away, later they noticed they didn't want such richness of fragrance on their skin always. I occasionally learn about powerful products from customers who experienced skin sensitization, burn, or pain. All I am saying is that Instagram reviews show only one side of the matter. I know if I were a reviewer, it would be easier for me to describe my experience of a beautiful scent than it would be for me to talk about a four-ingredient unscented oil without "actives. I get an overwhelming number of requests for essential-oil-free products, for soothing nonsensitizing products, and for effective routines comprising of 2-3 products - all that from discerning, intellligent, experienced, and often affluent customers.
Shown in the photo is one of my deceptively simple formulations. The cooling, deeply cleansing feeling I get from this mask is indeed cathartic. Catharsis mask can be used blended just with warm water, but if you like making your own additions, think cooling, not to counteract the energetically cooling herbs in this mask. Natural yogurt and most hydrosols make excellent additions. Warming spices - not so much. One powerful idea is to add a few drops of a detoxifying flower essence, such as Black Tourmaline from my very own @pnwessences.com
Always welcoming a good discussion.
