Start with that you’ve got!! Those five stones are enough. That one arrow and a quiver is enough. If you miss the shot, go and pick the arrow back up. If you don’t pick up the arrow in time before the enemy comes, clobber the enemy with the bow!! Never give up. Keep moving forward
“And he took his staff in his hand and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:40) #run #walk #sprint #crawl #hobble #movingforward #faith #faithinaction #davidandgoliath #fivestones

Billericay Striders just before setting off on The Hobble - a self navigated 14 mile trail race.
A beautiful route 💕
Today's activity - The Hobble!
A 14 mile off road race - self navigated.
Just as well there were a few of us navigating - a good sense of direction is not one of my attributes.
And it actually did turn into a bit of a"Hobble" for @lsm4rty
but she did it!!
End of day 3 🐪🐪🐪 Today showed me both just how far we’ve come, but also just how far we’ve still to go. From close to wild animals, our camels are now much more relaxed around us. Elif was such a scaredy cat, and wouldn’t have anyone even to stroke her. Now, she’s much more desensitised, allowing me close up and gradually working up to touching her face, without much protest. She’s cushing well on command, and generally much calmer than the previous days. However, last part of training today we walked them out individually, and her fear was starting to kick back in again. She was difficult to get moving, fought back a few times and dragged me about — the rope burns! So I know we still have work to get through tomorrow if she’s going to be ready for the trek on Monday.
But it’s amazing to be working so closely with a new, untrained camel, and to see their personalities emerging. We are all joking how Elif is more like an Arabian horse — in both looks and temperament — than a camel. Me, I feel like I’m raising a teenage girl. Each evening we’ve paddocked them with plenty of food, and she’s just stood in a corner and sulked! So pretty, such an attitude.
Finally got in for the cuddles ❤️
Phase two, which we’ve worked on all day with our six camels, is getting them to cush. We’re using the Rajasthani word for this — “djan” — and getting them to associate the movement of sitting down (natural to them) with the command. For some of the camels — Elif this morning, and Ohio, filmed here — this process was quite lengthy as the camels were scared and taking a while to understand what we expected of them. For both Ohio and Elif, all hands were on deck as we added ropes in stages to hobble them, gradually increasing pressure to kneel. This looks a little brutal, especially with the Jurassic Park noises Ohio is making here, but once they get down a few times, they connect everything up really quickly.
Camel training day 1 🐪
This is the challenge: going from hobbled untrained camels in to a 3-day trek from here to Pushkar, in just four days 😰
Our beautiful Hobble. She may not be able to get around so well but she is still a happy, healthy hen otherwise. As long as she has a good quality of life we would never have her put to sleep. She will be with us (being totally spoilt!) for life.
We need your help to support our "lifers". We need to pay for food, bedding and new housing for our special sanctuary animals who need to stay with us for life. Giving a little regularly would mean so much to us. Thank you.
