What was once named the Switzerland Trail of America was a very popular stop for honeymooners, adventurers, and miners in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Colorado and Northwestern Railway had a 26.1-mile long rail line here and for a dollar could take you on a scenic ride that offered views of the Continental Divide. It was said that "One need not go Switzerland, to Italy, or to Spain for sublime mountain scenery..." . .
While the line is no longer here, the Caribou Trail is an easy 4 miles with 308' of light elevation gain. This clearly marked lollipop trail offers spectacular views along the mountain range and is something not to be missed. Stop and take a look at the old homestead barn or the miner camp along the trail. Many hikers, snowshoers, cross country skiers visit this area to take in the vast beauty of the region. . .
