See these home fries? I didn't order them. I called my favorite brunch spot this morning and asked for scrambled eggs with onions and peppers and a side of crispy bacon. Dassit. The woman taking my order asked me what kind of toast I wanted. Hmmm.....didn't recall asking for any toast. "No toast, thank you," I said. Went to pick up my order, checked it in the car and saw these home fries I didn't ask for. Cue eyerolling, irritation and thoughts about a possible worldwide conspiracy to keep us all fat, sick and hooked on carbs.😵😷 How weird is that next time I order I have to be like hey, I know I just said bacon and eggs, but can you also make sure not to give me toast, home fries or pancakes as well? 😏
Seriously, I feel like this was a metaphor for the way our society tries to push carbs on us nonstop: in ads, in dietary guidelines, hidden in foods we wouldn't expect to have them, given away for free at restaurants (hello, bread baskets), served to us even when we didn't order them. They're a part of our culture and our cultural programming (brainwashing may be a more accurate word). And they can be very hard to resist. At least they are for me. I don't naturally have a ton of self-discipline. But the work it takes to stick to keto is 1000% worth it. No matter how many times I fall off, keto is the lifestyle I'll always come back to, because keto is fucking lit, and keto heals. And I'm not trying to spend my life making Big Food and Big Pharma rich. 🚫
Btw, I threw the home fries out. Yay for me. I may have had a few that were mixed in with the eggs but I still consider that a win. The universe is trying to test today and I'm not having it. 😂
New research shows that a sedentary lifestyle should be considered as strong a risk factor as hypertension, diabetes and smoking; if not stronger than all of them.
That is, not exercising is worse for you than smoking, diabetes and heart disease.
In a published study of over 122,000 patients, researchers found that being unfit on the treadmill or in an exercise stress test has a worse prognosis, as far as death, than being hypertensive, being diabetic or being a current smoker, according to the senior author of the study, Dr. Wael Jaber, a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic.
The study also showed that fitness leads to a longer life, with no limit to the benefit of aerobic exercise.
So the next time you think about binge watching a new series on Netflix, you might want to reconsider and push the pause button. Get up and move it, move it. You got to move it.

Although it is hard to push past the anorexic rules and thoughts that have been planted in my brain for many years, I don’t want to look back on my life and think ‘I could have eaten that but I didn’t because I was scared of x, y & z’ •
I don’t want to refuse a treat for afternoon tea on a girls day with my mum, I don’t want to pass on experiencing new cultural foods while traveling the world, I don’t want to deprive my body of not only nutrition but also the happiness and joy food brings us all.
Basically, I don’t want to reduce my life to stay within the limits of my eating disorder because you know what, the limits continue to get smaller and smaller until you’re no longer living.
If there is anything I have learnt throughout my recovery it is that fear thrives in a place of inaction. To overcome your anxiety you must do it one small step at a time. If you wait for ‘tomorrow’ it will never come and before you know it, tomorrow is the end of your life!
With that said, yesterday afternoon I enjoyed this chocolate cupcake along with a peppermint tea from @vegbarhobart

Today I was the featured guest speaker for the organization “Black&Well”. I spoke about the key elements for a consistent practice of self-care.
I also made sure they understood that self-care is a way of being, not just doing.
Black&Well is funded by The Obama Foundation, but I didn’t know that going in. So when I arrived and they had my pictures and name shining on the projector screen, I was like “OMG, whaaaat?!!!” 😲
They’re doing big things in the community and I was honored to be a part of it today!
Confidence is over rated. Teach kids that what they need most is the effort. Confidence is just a result of the effort.
This week I learnt that starting a new healthy routine isn’t easy and takes consistency & time. Support & accountability never hurts either! 🙌🏻

Just realised I'm wearing 3 things that used to be my aunt's! The jacket, the sleeveless top and a black long sleeved top underneath are all from her. 👚👕
I absolutely love getting clothes from family. There's nothing better than sharing things with the people you love.
My aunt passed away last year and these pieces now have sentimental value. I imagine how she would have worn them and they make me feel close to her even now. 💚

Bring your own #veggies
. I've been to sooooooo many potlucks full of bread and cheese (which are fantastic and give me life, don't get me wrong) but hardly any veg.
Three ways to add more veggies:
1. Appetizers: Veggies and dip.
2. Side dishes: Salads, Cooked veggies.
3. Mains: Adding veggies to traditional dishes (spinach and mushroom to spaghetti sauces). _
Doesn't have to be boring at all, but you can have #control
on one part of the meal!
So why not? You can still have the foods you want but also hit your veggie goals! To me, that's #balance

Recipe of the day: Skinny Buffalo Chicken Dip
8 servings, about ½ cup dip and ½ cup veggies each
2 oz. Neufchatel cheese, softened
1½ cups reduced fat (2%) plain Greek yogurt
¾ cup shredded part-skim Mozzarella cheese
⅓ cup cayenne pepper hot sauce
¼ cup crumbled blue cheese
1½ cups shredded cooked chicken
Nonstick cooking spray
4 cupsvraw vegetables (like celery sticks, carrots sticks, jicama sticks, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber slices)
1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. Combine Neufchatel cheese, yogurt, mozzarella cheese, hot sauce, blue cheese, and chicken in a medium bowl; mix well.
3. Place in a 1½-quart baking dish that is lightly coated with spray. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and edges begin to slightly brown.
4. Serve immediately with raw vegetables for dipping.

Apple Cider Donuts 😍
Truth be told, I’ve never had an Apple Cider Donut before today. I keep seeing post about enjoying them at fall festivals and pumpkin patches but I had never had one. It just so happened that @mudhustler_official
’s recipe popped up on my feed a couple days ago and I instantly knew what I was making for our Saturday breakfast! The recipe was very simple and they tasted amazing! Next time I make them I think I will add some chunks of apple or even make some frosting for them. My recipe came out to 2SP each and it made 14 donuts 🍩
Apple Cider Donuts •
2 scoops Devotion Angel food cake- 3SP
1 C. Kodiak Cakes- 10SP
1 tsp Ground cinnamon- 0SP
1/4 C. Trivia brown sugar- 7SP
1 tsp Vanilla- 0SP
1/4 C. Unsweetened applesauce- 0SP
1 tsp Baking Powder- 0SP
1 tsp Apple Pie Spice- 0SP
8 oz Apple Cider- 7SP
1 C. Water- 0SP
Mix everything together until smooth. Spray donut pan or mold with non stick cooking spray. Spoon mix into pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon abs sugar if you would like a little more sweetness. •
Cook at 375 for 15 minutes •

Avocado Feta Corn Salad Recipe
INGREDIENTS LIST FOR THE AVOCADO CORN SALAD RECIPE
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen corn, thawed
2 small avocados, diced
1 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 cup finely chopped cucumber
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
1/2 red onion, sliced
1 tablespoon butter or ghee
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
A pinch of salt
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon honey, optional
1. To make your salad dressing: Whisk together 3 tablespoons of olive oil, water, lime juice, Italian seasoning, honey and salt in a small bowl, set aside.
2. Cook corn in a skillet with 1 tablespoon butter for 3 – 4 minutes stirring regularly, until tender.
3. Pour corn into a large salad bowl or shallow plate, allow to cool for a couple of minutes and combine with avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, feta, and basil. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
4. Just before serving, drizzle the corn salad with the dressing and sprinkle with extra feta cheese and basil if you want. Enjoy!
Spring rolls 🌈🥕🥒. They are so yummy and fresh, I love to eat them with a little bit of hot sauce. To make them I used rice paper rolls,some rice noodles, carrots, cucumber, lettuce and red cabbage. Then I topped them with sesame seeds. I hope you guys like them!😃. Do you trust yourself? Don’t be afraid of following your intuition. Sometimes we let fear stop us from doing what we want to do. Embrace uncertainty! Cultivate your gifts, we all have different talents, dreams, abilities and visions. We are unique individuals and we are all on different paths. Your path may not look like your mother’s path, and that’s okay. Follow your own passion, you have a purpose, that’s why you are here. You should always trust your gut and choose love over fear. You don’t have to worry about the future, in fact it is not even real. It’s just a concept in your mind. Rule your mind or it will rule you. ☯️

We all go through times when it feels "too much". Off days are inevitable in all our lives. What can you do? Listen to the cues that your body and mind are conveying - be mindful. They show up in different ways for us all. Some of us get irritable, others have low energy or suffer from fatigue. Some experience low immunity or even struggle to sleep. You could be experiencing a combination of these cues. However it shows up for you - just pay attention and slow down. Reconnect with yourself and recharge.
I've been taking it slow the last few days, and spending more time outdoors in nature. The Fall colours are just aahmazing!!! I was reading earlier this week, that in Scotland, they're testing out trail walks as "prescriptions" for people with chronic conditions, like depression and heart disease. I'm not surprised because we know what a positive impact nature can do to our physical, mental and spiritual health.

Seared steak with celery & pepper caponata⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Serve lean fillet steak with a rich, Italian-style pepper, olive and caper sauce and wilted spinach⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
200g extra-lean fillet steak⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
140g fresh spinach⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the caponata⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1-cal oil spray⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 red onion, halved and sliced⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2 garlic cloves, cut into slivers⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
400g can chopped tomato⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2 celery sticks, sliced⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 orange pepper, deseeded, quartered and sliced⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
25g pitted black kalamata olive, halved (about 8)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 tbsp caper⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
½ tsp dried oregano or 1 tbsp fresh⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 tsp balsamic vinegar⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the caponata, spray a large, wide non-stick pan with 3 sprays of oil, and add the onion and garlic. Cover and cook for 5 mins, stirring halfway through to brown them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tip in the tomatoes and a can of water, then stir in all the other caponata ingredients. Cover the pan and leave to simmer for 30 mins.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Heat a griddle or small non-stick frying pan. Generously grind black pepper over the steak and sear on both sides, about 6 mins in total, until cooked to your liking. Allow to rest while you wilt the spinach in a covered pan on a low heat.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Spoon the caponata onto 2 serving plates, top with the spinach, then slice the beef and arrange on top.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
