follow @fighters_tea THE BATTLE OF THE POTATOES 🥔🍠 ⠀ Ever wonder why sweet potatoes are deemed "healthier" than regular potatoes and if this is indeed true? 🤔Find out why they both deserve a place in our daily nutrition 🙂🔽🔽🔽 ⠀ DIFFERENCE(S): ⠀ 🔸GLYCEMIC INDEX & LOAD: When comparing the GI & GL of the two, white potatoes are higher, which means they digest quickly and can send insulin levels skyrocketing. 🚀 - (GI is a measure of how quickly a food converts to glucose. GL is a measure of how much a food converts to glucose.) - ⠀ This is one of the main reasons why we are told to avoid food high in GI such as white potatoes. However GI & GL shouldn't be the deciding factor when judging the “healthiness” of the two, because: ⠀ 1. GI changes with food type (floury vs. waxy potatoes). 2. GI changes when other foods are introduced. (We usually eat both potatoes & sweet potatoes as part of meals.) 3. GI changes with food preparation. (Boiling = a lower GI, since starch can bind with water. The dry heat of baking, = lowers moisture and concentrates sugars. Cutting up potatoes and sweet potatoes helps preserve their starchiness, while cooking them whole results in more sugariness.) ⠀ 🔸SUGAR: Naturally, sweet potatoes have 7 x the sugar content of regular potatoes, which is why I personally love sweet potatoes more. 😍 ⠀ 🔸VITAMINS & MINERALS: In general, both are roughly similar in their vitamin and mineral content. Sweet potatoes are richer in Vitamin A & Beta-carotene, aiding growth and repair of the body’s tissues, muscles. 🏋🏼 While potatoes contain more than 3x the folate and have more potassium, which is important for postworkout recovery! 💪🏻 ⠀ 🔺In conclusion, it's a TIE! Overall, they're pretty evenly matched: both contain strikingly similar amounts of calories, protein, carbs and fat. Both white and sweet potatoes, when eaten as part of a balanced and intentional diet, provide an amazing variety of nutrients while keeping us full and energized. 🔋 ⠀ I personally like sweet potatoes because it often satisfies my sugar cravings, especially when they're baked with peanut butter/almond butter on top 🤤 Which do you like better? 😋 ⠀ __ Follow

My reality is being a pre-med student, studying EVERYDAY, and sometimes sacrificing gym time for research, volunteering and to be honest, sleep. Aquí les muestro que tu tambien los puedes hacer!! Son superrr simples!! Este lleva: Salmón, pepino japonés, arroz basmati, palta, alga nori, ajonjoli. Puedes agregarle, quitarle o reemplazar cualquier ingrediente!!! No hay reglas!!! 😉 . Para la salsa acevichada utilice: 2 cda de mayonesa de leche almendras (receta en mis historias destacadas). Baking, baking, baking! Are your Christmas cookies all done? Are you planning on trying some new vegan recipes this year? - It's a bit weird for me this year because I've been writing our new Sustainable Weight Loss Guide over the past couple of weeks and have been thinking about calorie dilution, abstinence, unprocessed foods, and all that jazz. So, not really in the cookie mood right now, personally! - Some things you can do to make your usual recipes a bit healthier: ✔️ replace eggs with applesauce, banana or flaxseeds ✔️ replace white flour with whole grain flour ✔️ replace oil and margarine with applesauce or banana (2 for 1!) ✔️ instead of butter, use nut butters like cashew or almond ✔️ add plant-based milk instead of cow's milk ✔️ see if some berries or nuts could fit in the recipe - But no need to feel back for choosing to eat not-so-healthy foods around Christmas. Una ricetta al giorno... Crema budwig Uno yogurt magro, 1/2 banana, un cucchiaio e mezzo di semi di lino macinato,2 cucchiai di semi oleosi non tostato es. Noci nocciole ecc, un cucchiaio di cereali crudi bio macinato al momento, frutto di stagione, il succo di mezzo limone, cannella in polvere. Procedimento versate in una ciotola la frutta tagliata a pezzetti e versatevi su il succo di limone. Unite tutti gli ingredienti insieme allo yogurt, ed infine spolverate con la cannella... La crema è pronta 👩‍🍳

Happy Fri-yay! It’s been one busy week over here. And a lot of what I had planned didn’t happen. . . ❗️I saved all my cleaning for one day, which I hate, because then I spend the ENTIRE day cleaning, and when I turn around the house is a mess again 🙇🏻‍♀️. . . ❗️We’ve had some spontaneous evenings, so dinners didn’t go as planned, making my nutrition 👎🏼. . . ❗️My workouts have been out of whack because I’ve had some late nights and middle of the night wakings 💤. . . So I guess you could say I had some setbacks. But listen, it’s OKAY to have small setbacks or even failure! Without failure, there would be no success! . . One thing I hear a lot from people is that they are scared to start a nutrition and fitness program because they might fail. Well guess what? If you don’t try, things won’t change and you will have neither failed nor succeeded. Failure is what makes us strong. It’s what helps us get up again and push even harder. . . So STOP with the negative self-talk and telling yourself you might fail. Instead think about what COULD be if you started RIGHT NOW 😘

But, I'll continue to breastfeed and stay as active as I can until I get cleared for working out at my 6wk appt hopefully. 🤞🏼 . For now I'll just remind MYSELF to be kind about my body and all the hard work it did to grow not only our sweet girl 2 years ago, but also our big healthy 9lb 4oz baby boy a little over a week ago. follow @clean_eatingz I realized haven't posted a progress pic in a really long time! I've now been practicing yoga regularly for almost 6 years, but it's hard for me to find photos that really show how much I've evolved since the biggest transformations have been in my strength, stability, and just generally becoming a lot less floppy 😆 When I first started yoga I couldn't hold plank. I thought my yoga teacher was joking when he told me I wasn't supposed to let my belly touch the floor in chattarunga- I just couldn't comprehend how that was possible!!! I couldn't do any arm balances or inversions and although I was fairly flexible from doing dance as a kid, I was super unstable. I used to hold my breath and try to force things, and I could only hold my poses if I got lucky and it was a good day. It amazes me how much my practice and my life have improved over the past few years as I began to find my breath, my core, and my confidence. I'm not sure how much of that shows in these pics, but my heart was becoming much more open and I was becoming so much stronger and more stable! 2012: started practicing yoga at least once or twice a week. 2013: started practicing several time a week and did my first 200-hour teacher training! This was also the first photo I posted on IG that went "viral" and got reposted a bunch, and I started getting a lot of people following me on here. 2014: my first ever shoot ! ❤️I found out later that I was the first LA yogi they did a shoot with, which I think is so cool ☺️Now Alo is my yoga family and I've met some of my closest friends because of it 💕 2015: my practice was becoming much stronger and more consistent. 2016: kind of the same as 2015 tbh... I hit a plateau. 2017: in January of this year I completed my third 200-hour ytt, then did a 300-hour professional training program February-June. I've been taking so many classes and studying and really focusing on learning what yoga is- both the physical practice and the science/ philosophy behind it- and it's made such a difference! I feel so much stronger in my body and in my soul. I can't wait to see how far this journey takes me 💗 ⠀ Follow us () for the best daily work
