#summarysunday number 29 ! So not a bad week. I am still following my #decathloncoach program for running my #firstmarathon . I just didn’t run that much just because my big run that was supposed to be on Sunday was actually run on monday. This is what happen when you are invited at your friend’s 40’s and come home really late;) I lost a little weight but I have to say that this is getting hard for me if I look at my weight. My runs are ok but I cannot really see any results on the scale. Is it because of the food ???
Well, it's taper week, so not too much running or heavy lifting today. A quick 4km and some leg and glute strengthening exercises done after my shift at work and then I went home to read my new book and chow down on some cheese on toast. 😅 tmdidnt take a photo of the workout or the food, so here's some giant waffles I had in Hong Kong at the start of the year! 🤤🤤
Today I felt like I woke up from a long sleep. Over the past month, the weather in the Shenandoah Valley has been dreary, wet, and dark. I didn't realize how much it was gradually impacting me, and making my internal state mirror the environment around me. But slowly I found myself starting to lose interests, sleep more, avoid new adventures and opportunities, and shut down. My fire was starting to burn out. This happened gradually, then suddenly. When I realized what was happening, of course my wiser self tried to do things to make me healthy. I started writing. I joined a yoga series. I made time for friends. And it helped. But today was the first day in a long time that the Shenandoah Valley saw sun and blue skies. And it was like a veil was lifted. I realize how sensitive I am to how the weather impacts my ability to engage in the things that bring me to life. Nature is my counseling. And sitting on the Earth by water is my therapist's couch. Now that I know how important this is to my well-being, I need to start integrating some self care plans for days, weeks, and months where I don't have access to this outlet. Is anybody else particularly sensitive to changing weather? Does anyone else come to life when they are able to be outside? This is my goal! Truth be told, I am not always happy, and I’m not always positive. Who is, really? .. Just this past weekend I was feeling stressed. I didn’t feel well, and my dad had a fall at his nursing home and he wasn’t feeling well either. I was really worried about our house in Wilmington, NC, and couldn’t get an update on whether or not it was damaged in the hurricane. All things that are out of my control. .. My life isn’t perfect. I worry, I get stressed, but I work really hard at being positive. I have learned to use exercise as therapy, that overthinking is not good, you cannot change what you can’t control and positive thoughts turn into positive feelings. I have also learned to be the sunshine when I can’t find the sunshine because happiness is an inside job. 😊❤️

It seems fitting that I talk about PCOS and sleep today given the level of sleep I have been getting recently (Hint: not a lot)⠀ ⠀ When we talking about PCOS we tend to focus upon diet, but sleep is just as important for managing symptoms.⠀ ⠀ Poor sleep can result in insulin resistance, makes us crave simple sugars and carbohydrates (hello cakes and biscuits), increases inflammation and increase stress hormone levels. Delightful.⠀ ⠀ Now how much sleep you need is such an individual thing, but ideally you should fall asleep easily, stay asleep and wake up feeling refreshed.⠀ ⠀ So what to do?⠀ ⠀ 1. Regular sleep and wake up times are key to setting your body for a good routine.⠀ ⠀ 2. Wind down properly (and this involves no screen time at least an hour before bed as the blue light can affect sleep hormone production).⠀ ⠀ For me this means laying into a good book, but other ideas are meditating, baths, audio books, calming podcasts etc)⠀ ⠀ 3. Good sleep hygiene. Create a cool, dark clutter free room that makes you want to go be in bed is essential.⠀ ⠀ With that in mind I'm off to bed for a date with my book (Before we were yours by Lisa Wingate in case you wanted a fab recommendation). Hope you have a relaxing and sleep filled night!⠀ ⠀

My husband is a high school football coach and won the state championship last year, first time in County history. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was a really big deal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I haven’t missed a football game in over 7 years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sat in the same spot for every home game for the last 7 years and I wear the same clothes to every winning game.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If he loses, I change outfits. LOL!!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I, of course, wash the clothes in between games. LOL! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love to watch him coach and our son played for him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our daughter is a football and hockey fanatic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love this part of our life since 1999 which I couldn’t do before because I was sick and couldn’t even climb up the steps in the stadium.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NOW .... I am pain-free! Are you constantly striving to be happier? Are you looking out "there" for some solution and way to be happier?  ____ Here's the thing with happiness, it's a mental state. And as with any mental or emotional state, YOU decide how to feel. I know it may seem impossible on most days. But remember, your default setting is joy and happiness. 😀 ____ Look at any child and you'll see this truth. Pure joy. Unexplained happiness. This is our nature. This is our true state of being. So, stop trying to search for ways to be happier. The real solution is to just let go. Let go of that negative self-talk. Let go of constantly pushing and searching. Just be. And remember that when you connect deeper with yourself and nature, your default setting will shine through. 🙋‍♀️🤗 ____ Don't get me wrong. This isn't always easy and even I still struggle with this on a daily basis. But I know deep down my happiness is there, waiting for me. When I shed the limiting beliefs, control, and negative thoughts, then and only then this truth comes pouring out. ✨

After a 9 hour flight, 5 hour layover in London, 2 hour nap on some random benches, 2.5 hour flight to Croatia and a 30 min drive to our Air B&B apartment, we have finally arrived to our first destination...and the views are certainly worth the journey. Since we’re such party animals, we’re in bed before 9pm 😂. The days ahead of us will be long and full, so we’re going to adjust to the time change so we can go full throttle.
