Mason is a 33 year old from Columbia who works part-time at Starbucks and has their own business. At the age of 18, they were diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which is an illness that doesn’t go away and requires medication to manage its symptoms. Five years ago, Mason quit their job to go back to school thus causing them to lose their employer-sponsored health insurance. They looked for a plan on the Marketplace but couldn’t afford any of them. Mason also did not qualify for Medicaid in Missouri, putting them in the coverage gap. Luckily, they were able to find resources in Columbia that allowed them to purchase their medication on a sliding scale. Health is a necessary component of being a functioning human being, which is why Mason believes that “health care should be accessible for all people.” Today, Mason is covered under Starbucks’ employer-sponsored health insurance and is finally able to receive the care they need.

Have you had pain from the back part of your lower jaw that always seems to come and go?
There is a possibility that you may have an impacted wisdom tooth.
WHAT IS AN IMPACTION?
An impacted wisdom tooth occurs when there is insufficient space for the last tooth in your jaw to erupt into your mouth. It usually results in recurrent pain if the area around the tooth gets infected or irritated by constant food packing.
Your wisdom teeth or third molars are the last set of teeth to come into your mouth. They usually erupt around the age of 17 to 25. They are the most frequently impacted teeth in the adult jaw.
A good number are usually asymptomatic and a chance finding when radiographs are taken during your dental appointment.
If pain ensues, treatment will be needed immediately depending on the severity of impaction.
Impacted wisdom teeth don’t always cause symptoms. However, when it becomes infected, damages other teeth or causes other dental problems, you may experience some of these symptoms:
👉Red or swollen gums
👉Tender or bleeding gums
👉Swelling around the jaw
👉An unpleasant taste in your mouth
👉Difficulty opening your mouth
TREATMENT OF IMPACTED WISDOM TOOTH
Not all impacted teeth need to be removed. The decision to remove is dependent on the severity of infection and the presence of symptoms.
Asymptomatic impaction that will not potentially damage an adjacent tooth will usually be left alone.
If the impaction is just from your gum, that section of your gum will be surgically removed to allow ease of cleaning all around your tooth.
In symptomatic cases, a surgical removal of the tooth is usually the best option; this will involve numbing the jaw and sometimes an incision may be made to remove the obstructing bone.
Treatment usually lasts between 15 and 45mins and you will be able to go home on the same day.

These two are “thicker than THIEVES”. 😉 For real, though. They led me to essential oils when they were toddlers and Young Living’s Thieves oil COMPLETELY changed our winter. When it comes to immune support, you want this one! I love to diffuse it when something is going around. We roll it on everyone’s feet at the first sign of being run down... and we CLEAN with it! Add a few drops to some baking soda & scrub! Not to mention we make hand sanitizer with it and LOVE to mix it with orange oil in our homemade hand soap. This blend is incredible! Understanding Mental Health
What is mental health?
WHO defines health as a complete state of physical mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
Mental health is therefore a recognised and very important aspect of health. There is no health without mental health.
WHO further defines mental health as a state of well being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
Mental disorders therefore have negative effects that drastically reduce the ability to realize potential, the ability to cope with stress, and the ability to contribute to self development, family and society at large.
Mental disorders refer to a very broad range of problems. Most of these problems are categorized by a combination of - abnormal thought patterns
- abnormal emotions
- abnormal behaviour - abnormal relationship with others
Clinical names for some disorders include depression, schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities (dementia, autism) and drug abuse disorders.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty that deals medical and psychological diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
Mental health can be maintained, mental illness can be treated and many mental disorders can be reversed. Those that cannot can be managed such that potential can be realized and affected persons can live productive lives.

Also last week, Wesley Bell @wesleybell_for_stlprosecutor

The sprawling U.S. health care industry has trouble managing patient information:
Every doctor, medical office, hospital, pharmacy, therapist and insurance company needs different pieces of data to properly care for patients.
These records are scattered all over on each business’s computers – and some no doubt in filing cabinets too. They’re not all kept up to date with current information, as a person’s prescriptions change or new X-rays are taken, and they’re not easily shared from one provider to another.
There might be a way out, toward a health care system where patients have accurate and updated records that are secure against tampering or snooping, and with data that can be shared quickly and easily with any provider who needs it. In my work on health care innovation at the Center for Health Law Studies, at Saint Louis University School of Law, I have been following the rise of a technology that may help us address the weaknesses in today’s health care record-keeping: blockchain.
it feels weird as hell to be on the other side of the system i work so hard everyday to become a part of.
i woke up at 2 am with intense cramping in my abdomen, something that has been happening on and off for the past month, and i’ve been on flagyl for it after traveling to cuba in july.
the resident doctor i saw last week never really thought i had a parasite (giardia), but his attending insisted on his/her immediate conclusion that my symptoms pointed to such and concluded that an intense antibiotic with a strong set of side effects (flagyl) were the best course of action. thank god that resident doctor cared enough to give me his contact information.
because today, i was shuttled to urgent care, where after puking up my guts all morning, i had rebound tenderness on my abdomen, which had the urgent care doc send me to the ER. is medicine an art, or a science? was that really a necessary move?
because there were no other signs in my case that pointed that i needed to go to the ER. i could’ve been given the same course of treatment - get off the flagyl, start cipro for traveler’s diarrhea, refill useless nausea meds that have no effect, and most importantly, refer to GI doc who i won’t see for another few days - in the urgent care. hell, i should’ve had a GI workup IN the urgent care with an endoscopy and a stool culture which i won’t get for a few days, leaving me to deal with the same sx that i’ve had for a month.
thanks to the fact that i have health insurance, along with that amazing resident doctor who went out of his way to make sure i got care today, this is merely a small annoyance in my life. but what if i didn’t have health insurance? or i didn’t speak english? because i’m not critically, life threateningly ill, i was barely treated at the ED. because i was displaying more severe symptoms, i was shuttled off from a primary care facility.
just a little food for thought. this system is so broken and today reminded me what i really got into this for- helping people. if i’m dead ass honest, it’s really not the science, or the money, or the prestige. it’s because i really want to be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves.
