I started working on a small batch of cherry wood lucets last night. If you're not familiar with the lucet (I had no idea until fairly recently) allow me to explain... The lucet is an ancient tool (seems to be commonly associated with #vikings
) used to make strong cord. It reminds me a lot of the French knitting device that we played with as kids (anyone else grow up using one of those? No? Must just be me then 🤔😅). So far what I've discovered is (1) these ones I made are way too small for my hands, so they should be sized nicely for people with littler hands, and (2) I have a tendency to braid the yarn too tightly, which makes it hard to work. So maybe I'll make a larger version too. And figure out how to not braid so tight!
Anyone ever used a lucet before? I'm open to tips, advice, and suggestions! If anyone wants to give it a try, I'll be putting these up in my #Etsy
shop eventually, but just send me a DM in the meantime.
