Middle Magnum goodness on #wheelgunwednesday
. You just can't go wrong with a .41 Magnum. It's impossible. This cartridge is significantly under rated by those who don't know it, or those who limit themselves to factory ammo. And calling it the Middle Magnum is a bit unfair, it's really quite close to the .44 Magnum, especially if you know how to use the reloading press.
Development of the .41 Magnum began in the early 1960's, thanks to Elmer Keith and legendary Border Patrolman Bill Jordan. From the get go it was meant as a do all cartridge. Full power ammo was intended for the hunting field and medium power ammo was meant for "social" work. This never really worked out, and besides, Elmer wanted a .401 diameter bullet and not .410 with ballistics mirroring modern day heavy 10mm for hunters and roughly .40 S&W power for duty guns. It was confused from the get go. But it has earned some respect over the years by it's advocates and is almost always an extremely accurate cartridge. In all honesty, it's more popular now than it ever has been IMO.
