Living here wasn't memorable. This house felt fleeting. I think by this point in my life I was old enough to realize that this wasn't permanent. I do remember that I really enjoyed the structure of this house - it was open concept and I loved my bedroom (because of the sky lights - which you can see in this painting - the two small blue rectangles). .
All of the houses in this series were created from memory - memory of the floor plan as well as the colour. Pulling colour from memory was a difficult and emotional experience - especially for these pieces. I feel I can relate it to aromatherapy - where scent can trigger a memory - in this case colour triggered my memories. .
Hope you enjoy! If you are interested in viewing these pieces in person my first solo exhibition (also my grad show) "There's No Place Like Home" will be happening at the Anna Leonowens Gallery - Halifax, Nova Scotia - opening night is Monday October 29th from 5:30pm - 7pm - the show will run from October 30th to Novemeber 3rd.
Thanks for stopping by!
