What if you re-frame the way you think about dieting?
First step, do not look at it as a diet, look at your way of eating as a lifestyle. Diets are not permanent, they are temporary fixes that often result in gaining the weight back (and more often than not, gaining the weight back plus a few extra new pounds). Another important thing to keep in mind is that just as with training, nutrition also needs to be periodized. What does this mean? Well, you cannot remain in a caloric deficit permanently. The body is much more intelligent than most give it credit. I discuss this often, and will continue to harp on it because it is a VERY important point that many people choose to ignore. The longer you run a deficit, the more likely your metabolism is to down-regulate to protect itself and conserve energy. So put an end to the constant dieting!
I DIGRESS! Let's get to the point of this post! EATING HEALTHY CAN STILL TASTE GOOD! I promise you! The fun part about cooking is experimenting with different flavors. Now you may be thinking, "but Julia... I do not have time to experiment". WELL, I'm calling BS! It takes two seconds to place an order on Amazon, or meander down the spice aisle to grab some seasonings. I am pretty sure we all are well aware of our favorite restaurant dishes and ethnic cuisines. So start there. If you like Chinese food, for example, you can play around with soy sauce (or Bragg's Liquid Aminos), garlic, green onions, etc.
Another excuse I hear often... CRAVINGS! I can honestly say that if you give yourself a long enough break from something, the cravings will diminish. Once you pass about the two week mark of abstaining from a certain salty, sugary, or fat laden food, the cravings tend to subside. You just have to make it through to the other side!
I could talk about food forever, so I will spare you guys and end here! If you have any questions about recipes, nutritional periodization, or macros (and macro hacks), feel free to DM me about remote nutrition coaching!
The return of the overhead lunge....
WHAT: Overhead walking lunges followed by a front rack walk.
WHY: Working with holds is a great way to develop grip, core and lower back strength. As your performing a hold the time under tension is larger than that of a single rep which will induce muscle hypertrophy.
These after sqwats absolutely killed me ✅
Being a daughter of a leading nutritionist means knowing more about protein, supplements, herbs, enzymes than I would sometimes like.
Not only did she get her degree but I bet you can’t name a book, medical journal or YouTube video on nutrition she hasn’t read or watched 🤓📕
Trust me, if there’s a product you like, give it to her and she’ll ruin it for you by picking apart what’s in it 🤷🏼♀️
That’s how I knew when she chose to partner with a health and wellness company, giving up her prestigious career in a Dr.’s office it was the real deal.
Please don’t mix HEALTH with AESTHETICS!!
I can promise you sometimes the people with the leanest muscle mass are killing their insides to get there.
Be cautious of the “health” products you consume and don’t sacrifice your health to “look the part”.
