My 100 favorite films of all time
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Directed by Miloš Forman
Beautifully and utterly human.
Miloš Forman created something that speaks to me on a deep deep level no film has. The characters here are so entertaining and feel so real, it’s almost like watching a documentary. It has possibly the greatest ensemble cast performances I’ve ever seen. Everyone is phenomenal. The story breaks my heart and truly hits my core and brings to tears, every time. It’s such an incredible achievement in filmmaking, from Forman’s direction, to the beautiful score and incredible script. If there ever was a perfect film, this is it. It’s sad, funny, touching, it’s wonderful.
“I'm not just talking about my wife, I'm talking about my LIFE, I can't seem to get that through to you. I'm not just talking about one person, I'm talking about everybody. I'm talking about form. I'm talking about content. I'm talking about interrelationships. I'm talking about God, the devil, Hell, Heaven. Do you understand... FINALLY?”
