“The power of imagination makes us infinite.” ~John Muir
Last night, while I was putting together yet another LEGO set, my daughter took a few loose pieces and built a mini tower. 😃 It was a quick build and looked cool so I took a picture before taking them apart because I needed some of them to keep going with my build. 💫
A couple of hours later, we were talking about a range of topics and got to the health benefits of effective journaling. She’s been keeping journals of her travels for years now but I wanted her to start writing to develop this habit of putting down on paper what’s on her mind, other than places visited. I told her that it would help keep the stress down later in life or how it helps find solutions to questions that swirls in our heads. I would’t go into the details of some of the studies have shown but I did show her the loose LEGO pieces saying our brains have all these bits of information that need to be connected to form solutions. She’s 20 and I’d like her to continue to develop good habits before she starts to have a career.
While talking, I started to get pieces to make a tiny robot without telling her what I was making. She ended up doing the same thing. She also made a tiny robot. Afterwards, I said that our little creations prove that we can find solutions with a few bits what we already know. Just like we could build something out of the MANY pieces in front of us. We don’t have to use all the knowledge all at once, just like we didn’t need to use all the LEGO pieces to create a couple of things. Clearing our minds through good habits like journaling, exercise, meditation, getting enough sleep, etc., can help speed the problem-solving process. Or just ease the stresses in our daily lives so we can deal with other stresses like commuting during a rainy day like today. 😃
(Hers is the robot on the left. I’m so proud of her creativity as well!)
