HOW TO (SORTA) RELEASE YOUR KNEE . ☝🏼 So with the assessment we talked about yesterday, there’s a good chance that you found internal rotation (IR) limited. It’s most commonly decreased in those dealing with knee pain. . ⚡️ If you fall into this category, then try out this series of drills to improve that IR. This ROM is particular important when squatting and jumping. As we descend into a squat the knee flexes and internally rotates. . 💪🏼 While the hip and ankle should also be addressed, we can start at the knee regardless. . 🔄 The primary muscles targeted here is the Biceps Femoris (lateral hamstrings) and the Gastrocnemius (lateral head). Forgot how good of a pump I get when I incorporate bands 🙌🏼 honestly haven’t done a ton of band work lately but I’m going to start incorporating it more as I get ready to step on stage 🤪 here’s one of my faves from today 👌🏼 looks super awkward but it’s amazing, make sure if you try this one out you’re keeping your hips on the bench and head neutral. If you wanna grow and shape your glutes I wouldn’t suggest ONLY focusing on band work or cable kickbacks as we see everywhere on instagram. You need to focus on a combination of compound lifts (squat, deadlifts and hip thrusts) and then add in the bands and isolation stuff. Ashley here.👋🏼@ashleyxstrickland These are the four crucial things that took me from the first pic to now: 1.) MENTAL STRENGTH. -This is something that I had to work on for a while and I still do! I decided to be in competition with MYSELF. I showed up and put in work on days I didn’t feel like it. I gave myself honest criticism when needed and also gave myself a break when needed. 2.) A COACH. -In my case, I am blessed to have my husband @thefirstgerald as a coach. He’s programmed for me, inspired me, pushed me farther than I thought possible and given me a new perspective on lifting and being an overall athlete. 3.) A PROGRAM. -You can not achieve a goal without a plan. Having a solid program has helped me to keep progress, held me accountable and kept me CONSISTENT! 4.) PROPER NUTRITION. -I wasn’t eating nearly enough protein and nutrient dense foods to fuel my body. You can still do the movements even without dumbbells btw 😉 . . 🍩 10(each leg) split squat w/ leg lift 🍩 10 push-ups to renegade rows 🍩 20 jumping lunges 🍩 20 lunges w/ hammer curls 🍩20squats with outside kicks . . -Repeat 3-5 times•take rest as needed- . Finished this one with a mile interval run {sprint for 1 minute, jog for 1 minute. }Not a runner? Set your timer for 5 minutes and try to do as many burpees possible AS FAST as you can. so crazy to think about all the progress i've made in the last year. not only closer to my goals but also in my strength. i use more weight on movements now then i did 2 months ago and that just makes me so happy & wanna continue to push myself hard in the gym. i notice small changes in myself everyday and it gives me sooo much motivation to not stop & give up. even though i'm not where i wanna be yet i'm proud of how far i've came && can't wait to see all the progress i can make in the next year. results take time, so it's important to be patient with yourself and not give up on yourself.
i had a super good but deathly quads focused lower body session this morning in my typical leg day outfit lol. the pro about my workout is that i feel so good now, the con is that i can't walk😅😩 if you never did drop sets/ pyramids on the leg press then i highly recommend trying it out because i promise you'll die😂 my workout was SO hard and intense, i was literally dripping sweat, my face was RED and i had to sit down in between some sets. i'm realllyyy hoping i'm not sore for the next 4 days like i was last time though🤞🙏
i've been really overall tired all day today. i was up late last night & woke up early. but besides that i still went to the gym and trained my lower body. sometimes i hate training it & sometimes i love it but today definitely wasn't the day i loved it lol. i was short on time there (which may of been a good thing considering how tired i am today) but still got a good workout in which i'm happy about. i still died doing hip thrusts super set with DB RDLs with my newww @gracefituk resistance band😩🔥it's crazy how good they are!! but even though i didn't have one of the best workouts ever today - i still went && tomorrow is another day to push harder.
honestly the thing that motivates me the most is seeing all the hard work i put in pay off & finally see all the progress i've been working for. some days i'm more motivated to workout then others but i still push myself to get in the gym on the days i'm not. if you have certain goals for yourself & how you want your body, you have what it takes to reach them - you just have to WORK for them. push yourself for an extra set/ rep, to add some more weight, ect. you'll only reach your goals by putting in the work for them, consistency & patience. once you see all the progress you make, you'll want to push yourself for more & more.
trained my upper body todayyy and loved every second of it😩😩training my back is definitely one of my favvvvs. i tried out this new super set which i loveee so i'll get a video of it next time i do it!! i promise i'll start getting more vids😂 i always forget to record when i'm in the gym. but i've been loving alll of my workouts recently, they all feel so good & pit me into such good moods after🙂 also i loveeee dis unmatchyyy @gymshark outfit😊😊😊 && side note - my hammiesss were SO freakin sore all day😭😭
finally back into my normal gym routine which makes me happpyyyy. upper body days are always my favorites to train especially my backkkk. but seriously, ladies DON'T be afraid of training back/ arms !!! you won't get "too big" & you won't look "manly". so many people tell me that and it's not true!! it's so important to train all parts of your body so you're body is proportional. alsooo making your back wider will make ur waist seem smaller. so seriously don't forget to train your back😂😂 honestly to me, it's just as important as training legs.
october 2017 ➡️ august 2018 - ▪️some helpful tips for growing muscles ⬇️ - 1. don't over train the same muscle too much. you don't have to train the same muscle (glutes) everyday for them to grow. muscles grow through rest periods. 2. don't contradict your workouts - mixing in too much cardio while your main goal is to grow your muscles will make it harder for them to. you'll burn off more calories which means you'll need to eat more to be in a surplus. 3. eat in a SURPLUS. to gain weight & grow muscles you need to be eating more calories than you burn off in a day. 4. eat a good amount of protein - 1 gram per pound. if you don't eat enough protein in a day use protein powders & protein bars. remember - these won't magically make your muscles grow, just a way to hit your daily protein goal. also eat protein before & after your workouts. 4. eat lots & lots of carbs. carbs will help your muscles grow more than you think soooo don't be afraid to eat them!! 5. get a good nights sleep & TAKE REST DAYS when needed. remember muscles grow during rest !!!!! also set reasonable goals for yourself.
