Sunday is rest day once again for me (gym wise) but I’m planning on going for a run later to try build up my time by another 30 seconds (currently on 9 mins) 🙂🏃‍♀️ . . ❌ TARGET BOOTY NOT QUADS ❌ #repost @gymresident . My most commonly asked question is ‘how do I grow my bum without growing my quads?’ . Well here are some exercises that take the focus off your thighs and target your glutes (if performed correctly)! Always remember that foot positioning plays an important role... a wider stance with toes pointed slightly out will hit your glutes more and a narrower stance with toes facing forwards will hit your quads more. I hardly ever do a narrow stance hence why my quads don’t exist 😂 . If a bigger bum is your goal, then hit the like and save button and tag a friend to do this workout with 🍑 . Simple Glute Exercises That Are Not Squats (continue) 1. Donkey Kicks Start on the ground on your hands and knees. Keep your abs and glutes tights while raising your right heel toward the ceiling. Your foot should be directly above your butt. Hold the position and slowly return your knee toward the ground, without touching the ground. Repeat 15 times with each leg and perform 3 sets. Strap on ankle weights for a workout boost. 2. Lunges Stand up straight with your legs at hip width’s apart. Step forward with you right foot and bend your knee at 90 degrees. Hold for 5 seconds. Go back to your original position and switch legs. Do 10-20 reps for 3 sets. KEEP AT IT! Coming back from holidays and all the freedom that comes with that, it’s often hard to get back into the swing of things. Simple Glute Exercises That Are Not Squats 1. Swiss Ball Hip Raise And Leg Curl Lie face-up on the floor and place your lower legs and heels on a Swiss ball. Push your hips up so your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Pull your heels toward you and roll the ball as close to your butt as possible. Pause for 1-2 seconds then reverse the motion by rolling the ball back until your body is in a straight line. Lower your hips back to the floor and repeat. 2. Dumbbell Step-Up Grab a pair of dumbbells and hold them at arm’s lengths at your sides. Stand in front of a bench or step and place your left foot firmly on the step. Your knee should be bent at 90 degrees. Press your left heel into the step and push your body up until your left leg is straight and you’re standing on one leg on the bench. Your right foot should be elevated. Lower back down until your root foot touches the floor. Do 10 reps with your left leg then switch to your right leg for 10 reps. Training Alert 😝🚨 . . There’s always the question of how often should we train our muscles. Research is still being done on this topic, but there will always be different opinions. Here’s mine! 💁‍♀️ . . It all depends on your genetic makeup. 👨‍👩‍👧 Our soreness and recovery time comes from our physiology. Some people take longer to recover than others. This can also depend on the amount of training you have done. . . 1️⃣ If you’re doing workouts that you can manage high reps at short muscle lengths, then there will not be as much stress or damage. Therefore, they can be done more frequently. Examples of these when exercising the glutes would be body weight glute bridges and abductions. . . 2️⃣ On the other hand, heavy exercises that stretch the muscles and are done until failure should be completed only twice a week. Examples of these when exercising glutes would be weighted lunges, step ups, and squats. . . I prefer doing a combination of both types. So, I will normally go for 3-4 times a week. Everyone is different! Swipe left for video. As usual, execution is key when it comes to getting the glutes engaged and use them as the prime movers. The Single Leg Squat movement pattern is my favourite glute movement to elicit passive tension. Remember that what matters is how muscles behave internally. Follow what is described at the pic. Use your glutes to extend the hip. Get your foot and knee as two fixed points (support and rotation) that act as a sort of “bracing” to allow the glutes to contract and extend the hip. As a consequence, the knee will extend, but never think to push the ground or extend the knee or stand up. This will create a pattern where the quad will be the main muscle involved. Don’t lead with the chest, lead with the hip. If doing correctly, you will feel a surprising and significant glute sensation/pump, not a quad pump. You won’t be able to lift the same weight as with the conventional technique. The rest of the “guidelines” should be familiar for most of you. It’s called: Posing for the Camera 📷. Sometimes, we put ourselves in a position where we look like one thing, but in reality , we look completely different. This is why I’m sharing a relaxed vs. posing & a relaxed vs. flexed pic with you. (With no filter) In the first set of pics, you can see that I am well relaxed & then BAM! My posing changes my whole outlook on my body. In the second set of pics, you can tell that my booty is in a relaxed position, & then BAM! You can faintly see that nice little define line on the side of my glute. We all know that camera angles work WONDERS (and filters, can’t forget the filters) to make us look like something we aren’t, & to help boost our confidence to feel less insecure about how we really look. Or maybe we are the full package, maybe it just adds some UMPF to your picture. We all know that in the world of fitness, it’s great to take before and after pics to see how much we’ve improved. There’s always a giant difference. However, sometimes we can get a little carried away with the camera angles, filters, and such. Don’t get me wrong, posing for pics is quite fun because you can pose in ways you thought your body could never do. You can add some variety to your social media account & we all know that filters are just fun. But, Sometimes we have to take a breather to remember who we truly are , & to truly love our bodies for what they actually look like. Don’t let the camera angles & filters get to your head. They interfere with natural beauty.
