NOT ALL NUT MILKS ARE CREATED EQUAL! . The good news is that we’re seeing a BIG shift towards people buying almond milk and coconut coconut milk instead of dairy. . However, when buying, it’s so important to become a label reader and look for what’s in the ingredients. . The two biggest ones you need to avoid are Carrageenan and Cane Sugar, amongst others you see in this list. . People always ask me which brand I recommend, and it’s a tough question to answer because most companies will have nut milks WITH these ingredients, and others WITHOUT! . So the takeaway is you MUST become a conscious label reader. . Use my NEVER/BETTER/BEST philosophy that I talk about in the book in regards to nut milks. . Fresh is always best, so making your nut milks at home, such as almond or hemp milk, is always your best bet. . I highly recommend buying COCONUT 🥥 MILK instead of almond milk. . The reason being is that ALL almonds, even raw organic, are irradiated because of a food poisoning issue in CA a few years back. . As a long-term sufferer of acid reflux, and now in a position where medication isn't getting me through an entire day, I've made a decision to eat better and hopefully be better. In the eyes of some of my close family and friends I already ate healthily, but what I didn't realise is that, whilst something may appear healthy, it could actually turn into acid when digested. For an acid reflux sufferer, that's bad. I've been following @drdarylgioffre of @getoffyouracid for some time now, trying to learn foods that I can eat which will Alkalise my body to see if it helped at all. It does! I want to make sure you are listening to your body throughout this process, giving it what it’s asking for. . . Most of the time, if you are eating three meals a day, loaded with healthy fats, a big green salad with tons of alkaline goodies, moderate protein, and some steamed or sautéed greens, you’ll likely be satiated enough that you won’t feel that urge to snack between meals. . . But if you’re hungry, I don’t want you to starve and not have a snack because of the information I just told you. . . However, please be sure you are truly hungry and not eating emotionally, as grazing will stimulate INSULIN, which makes you store FAT and create inflammation. . If you find you’re hungry between meals, do the following: . 1. Drink a tall glass of room tempera- ture water. Supercharge that water with lemon, Alkamind Daily Greens, or Daily Minerals. Do this and then wait fifteen minutes and re-assess. If you are still hungry, move to step two. . 2. Take a brisk walk for fifteen minutes. . The thing is, we are all emotional eaters to some extent. . Being overweight is an ACID problem. . Most toxins are FAT-SOLUBLE and thus STORED in fat. No matter how many times I say it, this just isn’t true! . . Let’s look at mother nature’s examples. Babies need as much or more protein as any human. And get this, breast milk – considered nature’s perfect food for babies – only has about 5% protein. . . Compare that to your standard plate of food for older children and adults! It’s often 30 to 50% protein. That’s 10 times what mother nature tells us we need! . . It’s also DOUBLE to TRIPLE what the Centers for Disease Control tells us adults should eat. American’s on average are getting far too much protein, and here’s the problem with that. When your protein intake (mostly from animal-based proteins) exceeds 15% of your daily caloric intake, it turns to sugar in your body. . . Sugar spikes insulin, your ‘fat-storing’ hormone, which not only makes your body retain fat, but also creates INFLAMMATION! . . WHAT IS INTERMITTENT FASTING (IF)? . It is NOT a diet, but rather a dieting pattern based on what I call ‘Time Restrictive Feeding’. It’s NOT about deprivation or calorie restriction either! . It is a type of scheduled eating plan where you adjust your normal daily eating period to a 6 or 8 hour-long window of time without cutting calories... . And in the 16 hour ‘fasting’ period, you are hydrating with water with organic lemon slice, drinking herbal teas, and green juices (no fruit). You can even drink coffee with MCT or coconut oil (if you so choose the latter) . With IF, you are mimicking how our ancestors used to live, which was FEAST and FAMINE . They NEVER ate every 2 hours, otherwise known as GRAZING. . This way of eating increases insulin levels, stores fat, and creates inflammation . GOAL of IF – transition your body FROM burning sugar for fuel TO burning its fat stores. . Diet Goal – increase healthy fats and dark green vegetable intake / decrease net carbs to under 50g/day . For most people, it is the complete opposite. They eat sugar and carbs, and therefore, they are BURNING sugar, which is a dirty and inflammatory fuel. . During the ‘fasted state’ (16 hours) your body doesn’t have a recently consumed meal to use as energy, so it is more likely to pull from the fat stored in your body, rather than the glucose in your blood stream or glycogen in your muscles/liver. . What is the largest ACID in your body? . While sugar, grains, & artificial sweeteners are the MOST acidic foods, this specific acid has them all beat by a landslide! . Cow’s milk has twenty times more casein than human milk and is poorly digested and very damaging to the human immune system. The average American typically consumes close to 630 pounds of dairy products per year (milk, yogurt, cheese, and ice cream), which makes it the single largest component of the Standard American Diet! Contrary to marketing claims, drinking cow’s milk doesn’t have significant health benefits. In fact, cow’s milk is the number-one allergy of children! It was not designed for children and adults; it was designed for cows (think about how much an infant grows in one year, compared to that of a calf)! Humans are the only species that consumes another mammal’s breast milk after weaning. Cows don’t even drink cow’s milk after weaning! Most dairy products are made from milk of cows that feed on grains and are loaded with pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids and other acidic hormones and pesticide residues. Additionally, dairy products contain the sugar lactose, which like all sugars, is highly acid forming. The body converts lactose into lactic acid, which acidifies blood and tissues, ultimately PULLING calcium from your bones and magnesium from your muscles, while your body is hard at work to neutralize the acid. Because of its high lactose and phosphorous content, your body needs to buffer it with even more internal calcium (from your body) than you get from the milk itself. Besides, even if the ACID issue was not enough by itself, the 10 to 1 ratio of calcium to magnesium (needs to be 1:1 for absorption) found in milk is too high and devastating to the human body. Dairy is SCARY is does NOT do a body good, and certainly does NOT make our children’s bones stronger! Plenty of plant-based sources of calcium are much better than milk, such as broccoli, chia and sesame seeds, Chinese cabbage, raw almonds and collard greens.
