As I was taking my little one for a walk last night, I found myself reflecting about how the path we were on has always been one of my sanctuaries and has marked just about every phase of my life. When I was a kid, before the trail even existed in it’s current form, our gang of barn friends used to ride our horses through the adjacent fields and make up stories about the cougars and coyotes that were sure to be just out of sight. As a teenager, I used to hide in and scramble up and down the rock formations with friends before rules were put in place against doing so. The summer before starting college, one of my last really beautiful memories of my father happened looking out over the open space together watching fireworks along the ridge line. In my 20’s when I was a runner, the trail became one of my favorite places to train and release. Then, after life took an unexpected turn and I shattered my leg, I used the hike for rehab and restoration once I could finally move my body without crutches or a cane. The trail was one of my sweet Addie’s favorite walks and one of the last places I took her before we had to say goodbye this past summer. And now, I find myself as a mother getting to share this haven with my child and seeing it anew through his bright eyes.

Toby Blu, the 5mo old Basset Hound/Lab mix. You caught him eating his mid afternoon snack of grass. He regrets nothing.

“Traildog Scouting for Trout at Crater Lakes”
What do you do when you bushwhack over a Colorado mountain and end up at Crater Lakes? Well I take a load off and rest but Teig goes on a Trout scouting mission to find the rising fish in the beautiful mountain lake. Can’t blame him… it is fun to see the big ones feed on bugs at the surface.
Chama, the 11wks old Shepherd mix. Wants to be a camera tripod when she grows up. Very ambitious pupper. @heresapuppy
It’s funny — this month started out MUCH colder than it is now, but you won’t catch me complaining about 50* highs in the second half of October (and on a Friday, no less!). But it still counts as #sweaterweather
, so I’ll take it! 👍🏻 Happy Friday, everybody! 🖤😘
Today’s vibe: sell our place and move to a farm in the foothills. Install a wood burning stove and cocoon until spring. Enneagram 7 in full effect today, aka: restless and dreaming.

I’ve only run this at night. There’s a lot more to see during the day. Imagine that.
There was still just a little bit of snow by the time I could hit the trails.
The clouds and fog finally broke. What a beautiful run.
Couple of notes:
1) I have been running in @xeroshoes
for the last year and never have had a trail encounter with anyone else wearing them. On the way up Sanitas I saw 3 people. One was rocking the terraflex. Two were wearing their Trail-Z sandals. Kindred spirits.
2) Been loving my @ultimatedirectionusa
Hydro Light tights. As a dude, chafing in the... uh... chafing area always sucks. I have two other tights from other brands that don’t play well with my nether regions. These though keep things happy. Plus they carry two bottles in the back which make for easy use and no bounce. These will be out in the spring. When they do launch, check them out.
So many mountains. So little time.
