This May, the @neworleansmuseumofart
will inaugurate its newly expanded sculpture garden. The space will play host to 26 new and commissioned pieces, as well as existing sculptures by #KatharinaFritsch
, and ‘Wind Sculpture V’, 2013 by #YinkaShonibareCBE
'The Besthoff Sculpture Garden expansion celebrates NOMA’s primary mission of sharing significant art and artists with the broadest possible public', said Director of the museum, Susan M. Taylor. 'It also incorporates contemporary, innovative approaches for a healthy and sustainable environment into a compelling experience of art.', she said. 'The new display will include a work acquired by the museum in 2015, ‘Wind Sculpture V’, 2013. Discussing the work, Taylor described 'a majestic 20-foot tall resin sculpture evoking a bolt of African batik fabric blowing in the wind... The sculptures reference the sails of ships', she added, 'continuing Shonibare’s exploration of maritime trade affecting cultural identity.'
