I thought putting a sweater on him would be a process ....but he happily let me put it on him and didn't give it another thought. With the brisk temps by the lake, I wanted to make sure his skinny self would be warm enough. Still a little hard to get a perfect group shot, since he likes to stand RIGHT next to me....but we managed to get this one. Everyone looking fly in their winter gear!

We rescued a heart-breakingly fearful, very special new dog named Lonestar yesterday, and were touched by the tribute that Leigh, who manages the Friends of Cumberland County Animal Control - Virginia, wrote about him when she dropped him off. Grab a tissue; we'll let her tell you in her own words: “Lonestar came to us on 10/25 as a stray who was completely despondent. He would not look at us or engage with us in any way. Within a few weeks, he would take a treat from my hand, but he still was afraid of the two ACOs who are men.
Today, this poor soul greeted me at the gate of the kennel, thinking I had a treat for him. I closed the guillotine door, which closed him inside with me. He couldn't get away. I entered the kennel with him, and poor Lonestar realized he was (in his mind) trapped and couldn't get away. He shoved his face toward the floor and started shaking. I pet him and tried to reassure him with my gentle touch (I still had to get a collar on him) but every touch of my hand caused him to jump. It didn't get much better after that. It took me two tries to scoop him up to carry him to the car. He slipped out of my arms both times (he hadn't yet left the floor, so he didn't hurt himself). I have a messy car. Always have. Always will. In this instance, it worked out to Lonestar's advantage. It gave this poor dog a place to hide. He started out on the passenger seat, but he felt too exposed, so he nestled himself among my mess. I'm pretty sure he hoped he could hide in the engine. I turned the heat off so he didn't get overheated.
We traveled up to Woodbridge, and he settled down as best he could. He got to the point where he faced in the cabin in the car rather than the floorboard/engine. He continued to tremble, but a time or two he'd pop up and take a look around.
Lonestar is now in the highly capable hands of NOVA Pets Alive. I've sent them now three dogs that other organizations either refused to take (one dog) or ones that are nearly completely shut down (two dogs). I love this organization so much and am so grateful that they don't shy away from the tough cases.” Scroll through to see a few pics of Lonestar in foster care!

So many things to do today to celebrate the holiday. We drove down and picked up this sweet guy and opened our home and hearts to Foster him until he finds his forever home. He is the sweetest and most gentle boy. We are thinking Aussie/kelpie mix maybe? The Australian cattle dog rescue of Illinois pulled him from a high kill shelter even though he isn't an ACD because he was due to be put down and they just couldn't leave him there to die. He is skin and bones under his fur so we will love him up, out some weight on him, work on some basic training and hopefully find him a home. I think he is probably still under a year old and is doing amazing with my 2 knuckle heads. His name is King.... fitting for the Holidays.

Bella is exhausted because.....she got adopted today!!! 💕💕💕. The second photo is a song that I seem to keep hearing when I get sad about saying goodbye to her....but I really do just want this girl to have all the happiness she can handle!! (You can even see Bella’s reflection in the screen!). Bella and her new family are so lucky to have found each other!! Thank you @denveranimalshelter

Doesn't Maggie just look like the happiest girl in the world?? 😋 🐶
You would never even know that she came to BBR, with pyo and needing an emergency surgery (during which a reabsorbed fetus was found 😡) or that she is heading back into surgery this morning to repair a hernia 😔
Keep this sweet, overbredgirl in your thoughts today! Thank you @northviewanimalclinic
for taking care of Maggie today! ❤

Have you ever had the chance to chat with one of our fosters?? If not, welcome to BBR's "Meet the Fosters" - Oct edition! 🤣
Say hello to Staci from Huber Heights, Ohio! Staci has been with BBR since August 2015 after seeing a Facebook post looking for foster homes. She has fostered over 15 bulldogs since then, most recently the famous Rico Suave, and currently Hamiton. She is also regularly seen at BBR events and helps with dog transports when she can. 🐶
When asked what the best part of fostering is to her, Staci said "Of course helping and loving the pups, but to me, just as important are the friendships I have made with other volunteers. Since joining, I have lost my bulldog Mack, and my BBR friends helped me through that devastating loss and through other hard times in my life. Fostering and volunteering for BBR has truly changed my life by giving me purpose, but the lasting relationships I have formed with like minded people are so important to me too!" ❤
Staci has foster failed once, three years ago, with her 3rd foster, 7 month old Charlotte. Charlotte has several medical issues and now has end stage kidney disease. You may recognize Char as she is the BBR Kissing Booth Queen! 👑💋 If you are interested in learning more about fostering or volunteering, please contact us or visit our website! .

We have a couple newbies and O.M.G. do they look extra plush! Irish and Hogan came to us yesterday due to a divorce situation. They’re both 6 years old and a little on the fluffy side...probably because they are made of marshmallows; they are seriously oh SO sweet 🤗 🍭
Grab a tissue... our volunteers told us Hogan gave a little cry as he was driven away! 💔 😞We told him everything will be okay, but don’t you just want to squeeze him and tell him so yourself?!? 🐾
Say hi to Velvet everyone! 😊
This 5 year old girl is looking for someone to binge watch action flicks with. She is potty trained, good with other dogs, good with cats, walks well on leash but is overall a low energy kinda gal. Aside from couch lounging & Netflix, Velvet enjoy taking baths and snuggling her humans 🖥🐕🛁 .
🐾 Read more about Velvet, or one of the other 21 bulldogs currently available for adoption, by clicking the website link in our bio. 🐾
Our hearts have melted looking at Liberty's most recent pics! 😍
Libby is ready for a modeling contract and a forever home. This seven month old girl has sweet and patient personality, is fully crate trained, fully potty trained (seriously! even in the rain!!), is good with dogs and cats, knows her commands well enough to sit quietly while waiting for her meals and is a total snuggle bug! 💜🐶💜
Like her sister Poppy, Libby has special medical concerns. Read more about her on our website! 🐾
You will want to turn your sound on for this one! .
To all of you who helped to make the 5th Annual Buckeye Bulldog Rescue Running of the Bullies Event the success that it was, THANK YOU! Whether you participated, volunteered, sponsored the event, helped spread the word or just cheered us on from one of our social media pages, THANK YOU!!! ❤
We get to do what we do because of the support we receive from you and this event shows how amazing (and oh so fun!) we can be together!!! 🐶 .
