Mushroom caps erupt
next to tiny ferns and twigs
that will become saplings, all living
off the grace of a nurse log.
Even a fallen limb can become
nurture and incubator of new life.
See how moss starts to stick
if it wasn't already there, a soft
covering of such intricacy
I wish I could recreate it
in watercolors splashed onto
thick paper with deckled edges.
There's a painting of a cat,
more suggestion than actuality, more
gesture than solid, like a movement in dance.
How I would want to be able
to train my brush if I were a painter
but also untrain when necessary.
Capture a ghost, a whisper of reality.
Hints of moss and log and sabled fur, tints
muted with age and rain.
Like half of a rorsach test
matching my own dichotomous
brain. Ink blot as its
At times mere suggestion is enough.
>> For some reason, disparate influences converged in my head: @ash702812
posted a beautiful photo of a fallen tree branch with tiny mushrooms growing from it; @annewatkinswatercolor
painted the most amazing watercolor cat; and also @jean_bascom_art
, because her watercolors floor me and I've been reading Cynthia Hogue thanks to her and @apoetsdrawer
. So thank you all around. I'm trying to loosen up my writing and get a bit more imagistic.
