For this week’s #transformationtuesday
I give you this beautiful result after having the #sklarbunionectomy
on both sides of her🦶. We are always fixing feet beautifully, no cast or crutches necessary. Check our stories for our immediate before/after surgery results throughout the week 😬
More bunions, this time on the other side of the foot. Bunionettes or Tailor’s bunions need to be fixed too sometimes. This patient was eager to get back to teaching fitness classes and was doing well enough at 8 weeks that she got the green light for high impact activities. She was in normal shoes resuming a modified workout routine around 4 weeks. I included a picture of the cut I make. I’ve found it to be more stable when translating than the oblique type osteotomy I had done in the past. Plenty of space for fixation. I’m happy and the patients have been happy #northtexasfootandankle #footsurgery #footandankle #drduncan #tailorsbunion #bunionette #dfw #irving #lascolinas

Just had my preoperative appointment and I am on board to have foot surgery on the 20th. I have major foot damage and a collapsed heel in my right foot. The surgery will require 3 screws to hold my foot in the corrected position. The original plan was to graft bone from my heel to use on my foot, but my doctor just determined that the heel will not provide enough bone needed and decided on grafting from my knee instead. We even considered using donor bone, but that’s no longer an option because my doctor thinks that fresh grafted bone will give me the best result. This surgery will give me tremendous improvements with pain and mobility. I am also looking forward to wearing normal shoes again without pain and getting back to an active lifestyle. #ra #severera #footdamage #footsurgery #butfirstvacation #vacationbeforesurgery
Pre-op was so good!! I love my surgeon. I feel confident and happy!! I will barely need prescription pain relief which makes me feel even more confident and happy...especially about my return to work!! I will need rest and elevation but also I will be moving (on crutches) and exercising/strengthening right away. I'm going to have about a 6 inch incision and he's promised to sew my foot tattoo back up to match (lol). I'm glad I'll be asleep for the bone drilling part 🤮 Next step is anti-coagulation clinic so I dont get DVT's again. 24 days til surgery. It's gonna be great! (That's my mantra!) #frankenfoot #auxillarynavicularsyndrome #footsurgery #thefinalcountdown #evergreenhealth #seattlesurgeons #topdoctors
Never ever too late to start a fitness regimen. We are big fans of being physically fit and believe that your feet are an integral part of that. Make an appointment if the only thing standing in your way to getting healthier is your feet or toes! #evofoot
The summer of my 19th birthday, I was working full-time in a restaurant all the while being a Photography student. After a few months, coming back from my shifts every night, my right ankle & foot would turn purple and double in size. Sounds like a tendinitis, uh?
“Rest your feet” was the key advice from all doctors. Of course, resting your feet isn’t as easy as resting your arm, for example. You can’t just sling it up and say “ok today I’m not going to use my foot”... Not. An. Option.
So between 2011 and 2016, I hurt, limped, cried, begged and suffered through as we searched for a doctor to tell me what was wrong with me. I was just 20 years old and unable to stand for more than 10 minutes at a time.
In the midst of it all, I got told that, looking at XRays etc, I couldn’t possibly be hurting as much as I described it, and that it must all be in my head.
We eventually found the right surgeon in London, whom it took less than 3 minutes to diagnose my problem. I wasn’t crazy, I was just born with collapsing ankles, my tendon had ripped at least a year ago (by then) and both my feet needed re-aligning, or as I like to say, re-designing.
Ensued two operations & three years of learning how to walk again. I am not sure if the moral of the story is to listen to your body, not to listen to people telling you how or what to do for yourself, to keep persevering or to trust your gut... Maybe all of the above!
Something WAS wrong.
Failure is only an OPPORTUNITY to BEGIN AGAIN wisely! ~Henry Ford ❄️If you’ve been following my journey, then you know I’ve recently been through toe surgery. And although this isn’t a “failure” it is a SET BACK. ❄️ I’ve always been the “glass half EMPTY” girl...not proud of that but it is truth. So it’s hard not to allow the healing process to get me down. But rest assure this temporary SET BACK will be my COMEBACK in the NEW YEAR! I will begin again...it may take weeks to get there but I WILL get there. ❄️ I may start-fail-start again and fail again but eventually I will DO THIS!! 👏🏻 So if you keep beating yourself up because you START and STOP and then QUIT because you’re just what’s the point...YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! You just need to get back up...brush yourself off...say to yourself “self that didn’t work!” And then BEGIN AGAIN! Who cares how many times you have to start!! JUST DO IT! Let’s do this TOGETHER!
Give me a 👏🏻🙌🏻 if you’ll join me!! .

Happy it’s Monday! Pretty much no pain from surgery this time (it was minor), no pain meds, and this may help with faster healing. Sign me up for that because mama wants to wear her tall boots to that ugly sweater gathering coming up! 🎄
My not so fun last week...⠀
Things I love: high heels, muay thai kick boxing with my feet, running, leg training days at the gym. 👠🦶🏃🏻♀️🦵⠀
Things that prevented me from things I loved: congenital malformation of 1st bone in foot jamming into big toe joint creating massive bone spur, no range of motion and ton of pain over the years. (See above pic on upper right) #uglyfoot
Things that will let me do the things I love again: osteotomy decompression surgery with bone spur removal. Basically my surgeon broke the first bone in my foot, took a piece out, repositioned it and screwed it all back together, plus scraped off giant bone spur on big toe joint. (Bottom right pic) ⠀
Things that have SUCKED the past few days: holy crap this is super painful surgery! I hate and love the knee scooter. I am not one to sit on the couch. While pain meds help with pain they make you feel like sh!t otherwise. This I already knew.⠀
Things that are on the up and up: off the pain meds after 2 days, becoming scooter boss lady, swelling going down, making my kids wait on me hand and foot like the queen I am 👑⠀ -⠀ ⠀
