Taco salad: 🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗 Ingredients: - Chopped lettuce - kidney beans - corn - black olives - 1 onion - 1 tomato - Coriander - Vinegar - Chili pepper - Low fat Minced meat - Yogurt - Low fat Shredded cheese - Taco seasoning - Salt and pepper . . Cook the minced meat, season it with salt, pepper and taco seasoning, add little water to it while being cooked. Set aside. . . Sauce: using a food processor, put some coriander, 1 small onion, 1 small tomato, 1 chili pepper and some vinegar. . Now its time to assemble the salad😋😋 Bring a bowl, put the chopped lettuce, kidney beans, corn and black olives, add the sauce you made in the food processor, and mix good. I’m starting to run out of types of dried fruit for these comparison posts... but mainly because I’m eating them all 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’ve ever opened a bag of dried apricots and not eaten at least half the whole bag you deserve a medal. I certainly haven’t. They’re stupidly moreish and don’t fill you up until half an hour later when you feel a little sick and realise you ate too many 🤢 (that was LITERALLY what happened the other night when I opened the bag to take a photo for this post). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember I’ve said before that there are three things that make a food more satiating; volume, fibre and protein. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dried apricots don’t have any less protein or fibre than their fresh counterpart so can you guess what’s making the difference? Okay so I technically didn't have this for breakfast this morning (had it for lunch yesterday), but nonetheless it is a delicious way to flavor up that bland bowl of oatmeal 🤗. . All it is, is 1 cup of oatmeal with a "generous" amount of @waldenfarmsinternational calorie free pancakrle syrup. IT IS AMAZING 😍. . 20/80 update: I stopped my binge eating on October 7th. As you can see, the picture taken on the 15th looks practically identical to the one taken on the 4th, even though I had been eating 80% clean and working out hard for 8 days. The reason that is, is because my body was still experiencing the effects of my poor diet. My 8 days of clean eating and exercise only kept my body’s change from the bad diet at a stand still. I’ve been eating 80% clean for 16 days now and am FINALLY seeing the effects. Let me remind you that I only ate bad for 10 days! And it has taken 16 to even see improvement. It may be another month and a half or so to be back to where I started! But here’s the amazing thing about my steady results: they’re long lasting! Why? Because I’m not losing the pounds and leaning up with “get fit quick” schemes. I’m not starving myself, swallowing a bunch of pills, consuming “meal replacement shakes” or restricting myself of carbs. I’m working out 5 days a week and eating right. Anything that promises “quick weight loss results” are normally approaches not sustainable for life and only offers you temporary results. What do I mean by 80% clean eating? I had a “cheat meal” on Friday and one on Saturday of this past weekend. 2 meals beyond my meal plan. I normally save those for the weekend, of course. It’s flexible dieting where you give yourself the max amount of macros you need and then allow yourself to indulge in a meal or 2. (Not indulge for an entire day though) I love this approach to dieting. #tuesdaytips : How To Stay On Track While Traveling 🍽 ••• Years ago, I would start to get anxiety about traveling. I would stress over every moment. I would ask “Where will I eat?”, “What will I eat?”, “How can I track and still stick to my goals?”. I learned this is no way to live. This ‘recovering’ perfectionist has learned it is impossible to control every moment, however, I can choose how to react to my situation. The following are my tips for mastering eating healthy while traveling: • Protein – Research has shown eating a high-protein breakfast reduces hunger and cravings during the day. Hotel breakfasts offer a variety of protein foods such as hotel eggs, bacon, sausage, or hardboiled eggs. I also pack single servings of @vitalproteins Collagen Peptides to throw in my coffee at breakfast. • Veggies – Buying precut vegetables or my favorite bell peppers and storing in the fridge, can encourage healthy snacking. Fun fact: Did you know you can eat a bell-pepper like an apple? • #snacks – My favorite snack to pack is Justin’s Peanut Butter packets. Other snacks include: trail mix, Rx Bars, Epic Bars, and fruit (apples/bananas). And lots of water 💦 • Whole Foods (or any local health food store) – I like to make a ‘power bowl’ of vegetables, starchy carbs, and protein. The ‘power bowl’ is abundant in colors making the whole meal appealing to the eye. While in Encinitas, I discovered a new store called ‘Lazy Acres’ like a Whole Foods, but with a cuter name. • Explore – I like to research surrounding restaurants from my hotel so I can look up any unique restaurants. While traveling I visited Lotus Café in Encinitas which offered ah-mazing omelets with sweet potato hash and my new crush – Philz Coffee (I am sorry, not sorry – Starbucks). • RELAX – Remember you are on vacation and enjoy yourself! I could absolutely eat my body weight in sweet potatoes, but unfortunately that doesn’t fit the mac’s 🤕 lately I’ve been buying the huge bag of carrots that’s like 10lbs and chopping them up. Roasted at 490 for 25-30 mins and wassssap playa tastes identical to sweet potatoes with half the carbs. I use 350g weighed out raw. That’s only 33g of carbs 🤗 & for my pre workout meal sometimes I’ll do a carrot/sweet potato mix! Feels like you’re eating so much more. I’ll cook my chicken with a sweet chili lime spice & sprinkle some stevia over it while it’s cooking. Don’t knock it till ya try it 🤷🏻‍♀️ there’s so many ways to make chicken & veggies not so boring. Top with fresh pico and enjoy 😋 (side note: I toast the tortilla beforehand)⁣ ⁣ Drop a 🙋🏼‍♀️ if you’d eat this for breakfast!
Four weeks ago I was sent a questionnaire by @heidimalleske to gauge where I was at fitness wise. Most trainers do this to see what your habits are and to give them a sense of what you want to accomplish with them. One of the questions on Heidi’s form was “Do you flexibly eat?” I remember messaging my sister @zimzam68 and asking her “what the hell is flexible eating?” Does this mean I eat whatever I want? I usually do that most of the time. Did I track it? Not as much as I should. 🍏 Heidi then sent me my fitness plan. I remember asking her “well, what about sweets?” Her response was “if it fits within your allotted macros, it’s fine”. I tried not to sit there astonished. The last trainer I had, had me eating the same foods (mostly ground beef/asparagus/rice) with little to no variation. It’s not sustainable. 🍕 Fast forward to now. I’m digging flexibly eating. Does that mean every day I can incorporate pizza or ice cream? No. But that means carbs are NOT the enemy. I still make healthy choices but it’s not the end of the world if I eat a cookie and make sure it fits within how much I’m eating for the day. Or waiting to eat something that’s really worth the macros. A 100 g serving of the white potato contains 21 g of carbohydrates and 2.2 g of fiber, and the sweet potato has 18 g of carbohydrates and 2.5 g of fiber. While the sweet potato contains more fiber, the difference is negligible. . Both potatoes are virtually fat-free, with similar protein contents. A 100 g serving of white potato contains 2.5 g of protein and 0.1 g of fat, and the sweet potato 1.4 g of protein and 0.1 g of fat. While the white potato contains more protein, the difference is only slight. . They do have a different composition in vitamins and minerals. The sweet potato is higher in vitamin C and significantly higher in vitamin A. The white potato is higher in folate. When it comes to minerals, the white potato is a better source of iron and potassium than the sweet potato. They BOTH have enormous and essential nutrients. . . Ok, so this may be a bit of a long post...it’s a reflection of the past few months and my studies with MNU. My journey into nutrition didn’t start here - I have done other courses in the past, however none quite like this one. MNU is a family I have been made to feel welcome to join. A group of people who all have the same mindset and goals - to help others achieve their nutritional goals in an evidence based, ethical way. 🍫Cinnamon pumpkin brownies to start this wonderful uni day . 🏃🏼‍♀️Getting up too late, no breakfast ready… at least I had some brownies in the freezer I quickly defrosted, put in a box and had on my way to uni. Definitely, not what I would call an optimal eating situation but well - as long as it doesn’t get a habit!🤦🏼‍♀️ . Have a nice Tuesday everyone!✨ . [ad due to mentioning a brand🤷🏼‍♀️] . 👩🏼‍🍳Recipe for 4 brownie muffins: . 40g pumpkin sauce (had leftovers and just mashed my cooked pumpkin) 20g cinnamon raw cacao @gochocchick 40g almond flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 egg sweetener of choice (I used pure stevia) . 👉🏻Mix all ingredients with a splash of apple cider vinegar and around 100ml liquid, add some extra cinnamon to the dough, fill it into muffin tins, top with whatever you like and bake in the pre-heated oven at 200' C for 25 minutes. . I topped it with banana, extra cinnamon, chocolate and had it with some hazelnut butter. . ℹ️349 calories for the entire recipe (4 muffins) without toppings & add ons 11 c, 36 p, 15 f . . . . Burnout. Have you felt this? . . I know I have. I experienced this in my own health and fitness journey. . Why? . Because I restricted myself waaayyy too much. I did not allow myself to be in a healthy lifestyle. I lived an extremely restricted, on annooottherrr diet, guilty, binge eating, forceful, overworked lifestyle for years!!! . Which did what for me? . I’ll tell ya it wasn’t anything good. Did I drop body fat? Sure but no different than I do now. My mindset on being healthy suuucked. Which in turn caused me to do the complete opposite for a whole year because I was loosing my mind. I was burnt out on my “healthy lifestyle“. . . I was always so up & down, back & forth w/my “healthy lifestyle” telling myself it’s just a phase I’ll get back on my “diet/routine” Monday🙄🙄🙄 (have you said that to yourself before? I have. 10783 times minimum.) Then Monday would end up being a month or 2 later because I dreaded going back to that restricted life. Thinking that’s what I had to do to be “healthy”. . . Does this sound familiar at all? This is dieting. Which is NOT fun, for you or anyone around you. This is exactly why I have not been on a “diet” in over 2 years!!! . . Is it still a practice? Absolutely! But I enjoy a REALISTIC healthy lifestyle now, no stress, no crazy restrictions & still getting to where I want to feel in my body. I eat healthy because it makes me feel amazing & I genuinely enjoy it but I also feel freeeee to still eat whatever I want when I want w/out any guilt or eating an entire pizza in 30 minutes because I was deprived or my mind thinks I won’t get it again for months. . . Ditch the diets & understand you do not have to be restricted to reach your goals. It’s a spectrum to move across not something you start that has an expiration date. . . . . Let’s talk volume for a second... these two foods have nearly the same macronutrient count. If you’re hungry and on a cut, lean toward the higher volume foods. Candy is great, I love it in moderation and eat it when I get cravings...BUT just because I can make candy fit in my numbers, that does not mean I always should. At the same time, if you’re on a mass and feel like there’s no way possible you can fit anymore food in your mouth, go for foods with a little bit lower volume. This is by no means an endorsement to eat like an asshole… But rather to be smart with your fave partitioning. When in doubt? Volume over everythaaaang. Want more tips and tricks like these?
