My first work out after a week off. I've been so rubbish with posting this last week.it threw me off big time!
It's amazing what a difference a week can make, an old injury crept up on me and I very nearly let it defeat me. And I was back to the apprehension of going back to the gym!
Deep breath and back to it!
It felt so good to get back into the gym today after being evacuated.
One thing people don't think about when they have to leave their home abruptly due to a hurricane is your food situation, especially when you come home. When power goes out for days or weeks, that also includes grocery stores and they can't get restocked until the roads are passable. The past week has been rough and trying to find food is few and far between. You're left with non-perishable items. Your body kicks in to survival mode and on top of that you are STRESSED. We were/are trying to eat as healthy as we can (thankful for @harristeeter
being AMAZING and having an almost fully stocked store today) but I am definitely feeling the repercussions.
This got me thinking about what I preach; "Listen to your body"
What does that really mean? It took me years to understand it.
Your body needs fuel and when you fuel it with things that hurt how it functions (processed foods + sugar) it's going to tell you in the way you feel, your skin, your mind. The next time you eat something that isn't fueling your body for good, take note of what happens:
-Does your stomach hurt?
-Are you gassy or bloated?
-Does your skin break out?
-Do your moods change?
-Are you exhausted?
-Are you experiencing brain fog?
-Do your joints hurt?
-Do you have a headache?
These are ALL signs your body is crying for help. It wants whole foods (veggies, fruits, clean protein). You don't need to "detox" your body with teas or powdered supplements.
Just drink lots of water, eat leafy greens and anti-inflammatory foods (beets, turmeric, ginger, berries, fish, ect.)
