I’ve got to hold my hands up because I’m feeling a bit of a fraud 🤷🏻‍♀️ - The reason I’m feeling like this is I promote self-care, and I’m also the first person to tell anyone that they need to look after their own self before looking after anyone else. BUT when it comes to taking my own advice, I’m a bit 💩at it really 🤷🏻‍♀️ - I spoke with a client yesterday and we discussed how it’s always easier to dish out good advice but not so easy to take it. My training has suffered since upping the ante with personal training others, and although I believed it was the right ‘sacrifice’ to make, it’s actually just reinforced how much I need exercise. I know some people might think that sounds a bit extreme but I really think I do. I’m more energised, sleep better, eat more consciously and feel happier. - So here’s to taking back some time for myself. Just like everyone needs to every once in a while. And I’m posting this here to hold myself accountable. Ain’t that what here’s useful for 💃🏻

Wishing I could swap my #RunCommute for one of the most beautiful runs I’ve ever done. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We only had a couple of hours to spend in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat and I didn’t want to miss out on the 6km trail path that follows the coast round the peninsula. For every flattering photo someone posts on Instagram I guarantee you there will be twice as many outtakes on their camera roll that wouldn’t make it to the feed because they look ‘bad’ or it’s not their best angle. ________ Swipe for exhibit A of a photo which I felt I couldn’t post because I was insecure over how my body looked. Now I am not saying there is anything wrong with how I look in the second photo, yet to me compared to the first it showed a less flattering perspective. It is quite a considerable difference, in the first the lightening exaggerates the definition of my stomach muscles and the way I am standing makes my waist look like it goes in more than it does if I was to simply stand straight. These photos are taken in the same same day even, exactly the same body, so why do we feel the need to only show our best when 90% of the time we don’t walk round looking like that 🙈 The honest truth is body confidence, while I would consider myself ‘in shape’ I am still not in a place where I feel totally comfortable in my own skin to showcase my insecurities or let people not see me at my best. While getting into exercise has allowed me to change my body composition, I still feel conscious my legs look bigger than before and no I do not maintain a low body fat percentage all year round. I wanted to share this to highlight that there is no such thing as perfection and instagram should be treated as a highlight reel. FITNESS TESTING 🏋🏻‍♂️ Had the pleasure of meeting young Ryan tonight. 👊🏼 First session with him involved a brief overview of the next couple of sessions which all involve testing different elements of his strength and fitness to establish a foundation from which to build upon 🔬 Tonight we looked at several mobility assessments and testing his squat and pulling endurance. 🤓 He tested pretty well for a man who hasn’t trained much due to injury this past year! 🤕 Looking forward to seeing how he progresses over the next while! 📈 See you next week Ryan! • @portadown_weightlifting

I’m currently training for my next half marathon 🏃🏻‍♀️ on 7 October - the Wimpole Half Marathon. This photo was taken two years ago when I last did this course - it was such a beautiful, Autumnal day 🍂🍁. The course is one of my favourites. Some of it is on paths, a lot of it is trail runs. The time I was really stupid. I mean really stupid. I decided to go for a run after I was really sick and had slept for 15 hours 😷🤢🤒💊 Never again. So I've had a low lying fever for the best part of a week now ... it comes and goes and yesterday my supposedly dormant volcano type of sickness decided it was ready to erupt 🌋🤢 Nice. 😷 So i shouldn't have run today. I had no energy, I hadn't had any water for the whole time I was asleep and I was still tired. But like an idiot that is too pig headed to know when to stop, I carried on with my run streak. #zerocommonsense 🤦🏽‍♀️ I struggled so much and hated every minute of it but managed to make it back home in one piece. More by luck than anything else. I've rested all day and worked from home and feel a million times better compared to 24 hours ago. Basic doesn't mean boring nor ineffective. When it comes to an training try to focus on flexion of the spine, not the hips. The rectus abdominal (the 6-pack muscles) brings the ribcage closer to the pelvis, not the knees to your chest. So thinking of pulling your ribs down or tucking your pelvis under will give you a greater ab contraction than throwing your knees in to your armpits. Supersetting Cable Crunches and Reverse Crunches (keeping my hips and knees in a fixed position) sucks. NEW Rack Pull PR 230kg for 5, 3 seconds isometric hold the top with with a dead stop at the bottom! - I do not run AlphaDestiny’s naturally enhanced, nor will I probably ever run this programme. However, I am keen to take advice from a well-known natural lifter and I support a lot of his ideology behind training. These rackpulls were done about half an inch above the knee, with the purpose of training the traps and upper back. Carry over to the deadlift is minimal if not non existent doing them this high up but that’s not their purpose. I haven’t done them really in forever so no matter what I pulled it was probably going to be a PR but I’m fairly happy with the final number.
