Fearless. BOLD. It's the theme of the @mindbodypowered conference I'm currently attending in San Diego. Yesterday's featured speaker was Michelle Obama and I can say many wonderful things about her interview but one thing that struck me most was her comment on not treating people as 'other' and to acknowledge that everyone has their own personal story to share that makes them human. The next presentation I attended carried on with that theme of people having a need to share their story and feel heard and understood. The ability to share requires one to be bold and sometimes fearless because sharing a story creates vulnerability. So here's to my 1 month report! #whoopwhoop I feel like running!!! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฟโ€โ™€๏ธ I am more determined to get there, even if it takes me 1 year. Progress is all I want. Not too fast and not too slow, just making better decisions each day. ** Here's what I learned: 1) Remove all stress even when people don't understand. One of the things I decided to do in this area was to go on a Facebook fast, stop making myself available to everyone, which caused me to overextend myself, say no when its absolutely necessary. 2) It's okay to challenge yourself. This has been BIG for me. I would make small daily challenges. At the end of the day, I would reward myself with something I enjoyed. 3) Rest. 4) Dance. This was a really good thing for me. On the days I couldn't get out and walk, I made sure I stayed active. My kids love when I put on music and we dance. It's fun and it shows them that their Mom is in good spirits. ** I am very excited to announce that month 1 has been good to me even with all my recent medical issues (hence week 3). Here's to month 2! Messing up in this combo has made me reflect even more than usual. You know how sometimes you have a plan, but that plan doesnโ€™t go in anyway way how youโ€™d hoped? Sometimes you find something new, sometimes you get embarrassed or frustrated, and sometimes you learn to laugh it off. Surround yourself with the friends who will support you when youโ€™re frustrated and make you laugh instead of feeling embarrassed. Posting this blooper since I always post the โ€œbetterโ€ videos. Need to remind myself to appreciate the growth we gain from mistakes, instead of getting embarrassed, upset with myself, or frustrated. As a teacher youโ€™d think Iโ€™d be used to mistakes. I preach to my kids that โ€mistakes are how we learn.โ€ Yet I am so hard on myself whenever I do make a mistake. Iโ€™m such a perfectionist with myself, while with my students I hope for mistakes so we can discuss them and grow. I need to love myself as much as I love my students. Hopefully some of you connect with this idea of โ€œmistakes are how we learnโ€ and embrace your mistakes as we do with children and students. Thereโ€™s always another path or door open.
