2nd week of 30 consecutive days of running/movement in the #Run_Move30 . Sad to say that I didn’t fit in a run today with my schedule and instead, did some upper body’s weight/Pilates training and deeper stretching to keep my legs loose and limber for tomorrow’s run. I admittedly am surprised how good I feel with 14 straight days of exercise. Workout was strict pull ups, db press, cable row, push ups, 45 degree cable pull, reverse fly and lots of foam rolling and stretching of my calves. Pressure.... isn’t there some song from the 80’s and he sings this word and you would recognize if you heard it but right now I just sound weird. Pretty sure both things 👆are true.. oh well, moving on. My mom is coming tomorrow to see our new place and I want it to be perfect.... pressure I haven’t posted on IG in over a week because I’m scared of the machine. Scared to let people into the real life stuff but that’s what people want to see. I could get off but my thoughts burn in me....pressure I’m in my thirties and I don’t like wine, I don’t wear yoga pants as a pant replacement and 99% of my furniture doesn’t match because we bought it off of Craigslist when we were getting back on our feet. I’ve already accepted the fact I beat to my own drum but sometimes the reminder that I’m on the fringe of mainstream makes me feel....pressure So worship music is up extra loud today to remind me that it is all self-imposed and I’m checking the soundtrack going through my head. I am learning the fine art of checking in with myself. Learning my triggers, the roots of my thoughts and desire for perfection. Life’s a journey friend. I’m cool with you being you and hope you’ll allow me the space to be just a bit weird here and not always play by the rules of Social Media.

Where are my #teamnosleep Mamas? My little man Tyler has childhood asthma, my little brother had it at his age too. It bothers him when the weather gets colder. I don’t even want to think about what winter will bring. Last night he ended up in my bed, whatev’s. I’m so thankful for my healthy habits that keep me happy, patient and energized for my kiddos. I just did a quick workout and stretching (mostly bc I’m still sore from my 2 mile run. 😂 Should have drank my Recover drink. 🤦‍♀️), currently working on my gallon of water and I’m about to drink 6 salads in the form of a Reese’s chocolate frappe. 🍎🥜🍌 We really need to talk about where protein comes from and how the body builds muscle. Your body requires a certain amount of amino acids that are literally like building blocks. The body puts these building blocks together in very specific ways with enzymes to build lean muscle mass and to repair and regenerate any old tissue. 🍎🥜🍌 If I go and kill an animal and eat its dead body it has all the protein in there. However these proteins are already fully built to work for that animal, not for my body. So a massive amount of energy has to go into breaking up these proteins to get them back to the building block stage where I can use them. This is why eating meat is so taxing on the body. 🍎🥜🍌 Really? Just eating it for the proteins? So much energy goes into digesting it for little nutritional return and unless you’re packing in a lot of fibre with it eventually you are going to have major digestive issues and chronic fatigue. 🍎🥜🍌 Nearly all plant based foods contain all the amino acid building blocks ready for you to use straight away, because whole foods come with the necessary enzymes needed to break these proteins down. 🍎🥜🍌 I would go as far to say (and can be hugely controversial) but I think every plant food on the planet contains all of the essential amino acids, an orange, a banana and apple, any types of vegetable, any type of nut, seed, grain that exists. It’s just that sometimes they will be small amounts, but it’s there. 🍎🥜🍌 Then if you are eating a diet super high in these fresh foods all those small amounts add up. A chimpanzee doesn’t eat just one banana! They eat a whole bunch! I was kinda shy about them finding out about my IG. It was like my passion IG account. I didn’t want to brag and be a show off, you know? Then, they would find out about my IG workout videos. They were just blown away by what I was doing. When they would bring it up, I’d shrug and say, “Ohh it’s not that bad.” I didn’t ever want them to believe that I was better than them. I was naive and self conscious then. I don’t care anymore. _ So why change?! It’s not that I grew tired of exercising, I still love it. - But, I just have this conviction and clarity that I am called to be transforming and creating a revolution to incorporate the power of psychology in fitness and food. Pro athletes have sport psychologists to elevate their performance. So why can’t fitness enthusiasts to newbie fitness goers have ACCESS and tools with the aid of psychology for fitness and food? Still unsure? Well. . . You can do the right exercises for your workouts like burpees, squats, or bench press, but if you have the wrong attitude and beliefs of how you’re always weaker than everyone else, most likely you won’t continue exercising because of your mindset and beliefs. Besides the fact that my stability sucks, this is why I’m wobbling with my stance in the first video ..these exercises are great way to warm up your glutes. Why should you warm up the glutes? Have you experienced only feeling your hamstrings or quads working during lunges and squats? And feel like your gluteus muscles aren’t working out? That’s because you haven’t activated them yet. As we sit around most of the day, our glutes get stiff so we need to warm them up just like any other muscles in our body and prepare them for heavy weight workouts. 1. Resistant Band step backs 3 x 10 ( each leg) 2. Kick backs 3 x 10 3. Resistant Band jumps squats 3 x 10 and 10 pulses at the end 4. Resistant Band lateral walks 3 x 20 ( 10 each way) 5. My point is, we’re all gonna go through our own #brittney2007 phase... do what you gotta do. Lose your mind, #shaveyourhead , bathe in lavender, sleep for days, kick and scream, throw a damn tantrum, move to a new state or country, check-yourself-in, pad your walls, #gonuts ....do what you gotta do to get it all out. Don’t let your pride get in the way and not seek help if you can’t find that grip. Figure yourself out. Whatever it takes for you to move forward and feel better. Feelings and emotions can hurt and sometimes be downright scary.... and honey, I got news for ya...#yourenormal and you’re also gonna be alright. Ignore those who tell you to quit living in the past. Sometimes you gotta revisit that painful past before you can start living in the moment and be your future self, again. The mind is a crazy thing! Quit harping on and beating yourself up. Don’t rush the process. Keep fighting and focus on that light at the end of the tunnel. It may only be flickering now, but it’ll start to get brighter. Just hold-on. Treat yourself with the same patience and compassion that you would hopefully treat others with. A Matter of Life and Death - [Warning: long post, but important message.] The vampire struck! No, actually, today it was time for bloodwork before my regularly scheduled physical. I really, really hate needles, so this is not my favorite activity. * I wanted to share this because exercise and eating right are critical for achieving a fit, strong and healthy body, but in order to maintain it, part of your fitness plan should include regular physicals and appropriate screening tests (regular bloodwork, colonoscopy, mammogram, bone density tests, etc). Some of these may not be pleasant, but they are so important in order to identify health issues early while they are much easier to treat or fix. * I’m a perfect example of this. * [◀️ to 2nd photo] Last November, I was lifting weights 3 times a week, doing mud runs and obstacle courses and felt great . . . the “picture of health” as they say. Little did I know that I had a ticking time bomb inside of me, which a random scan happened to pick up. I had a weakness in my aorta (the main artery to the heart) that would likely have blown within a couple of weeks -- usually a life-ending event. * Dec. 8th, when the call from the doctor came with the scan results I was on my way to the gym to work out and here he was, calling me to come in to the emergency room for open-heart surgery! If I had not been following up on recommendations from a routine health exam, I’d be dead right now. * Remember, you can’t always tell what’s physically happening on the inside by how your body looks on the outside! Sometimes there are signs or symptoms that will clue you in to a problem, but there are also “silent” health issues that you won’t find until it’s too late. Stretching with this sunset and thinking about all I’m grateful for. Why? Because life has been tough, but the more grateful I am, the better chance I have of conquering my anxiety and all of my challenges I’m faced with. - I’m grateful for my family and the texts and phone calls I get from them every day. They are the reason I have work ethic and the reason I have morals. - I’m thankful for my friends. The older I get the more real friendships have become and the less real others have become. But I’m thankful for those who bring out my best side, and my weird humor. - I’m grateful for my health and my abilities. I’m not perfect, but I know God has blessed me with my health at this time in my life and I’m never going to take that for granted. - Most importantly, I’m thankful for sunrises and sunsets. Sunrises are proof that every day is a new start and is capable of being beautiful. And sunsets remind us that a day can still end beautifully even if it didn’t go as planned. - ☀️
BACK TO THE GYM • • I’ve been experiencing some pretty cool changes in the gym recently. I’ve hinted at it in stories but this is a detailed post about it. • • The gym these days for me is a much more holistic experience. My mind is challenged with new things to focus on. My body is challenged by executing movements with more control. • • I’ll detail everything that’s going on here to illustrate my new found training style. It’s only 15 seconds but there’s a lot going on. • • 1️⃣ Breathing: using the breath in a controlled way allows me to to really zero in on what I’m doing. A slow inhale on eccentric (arms going up) and a quicker exhale on the concentric (arms pushing down.) 2️⃣ Tempo: matching my breathing above I really FEEL the tension by slowly letting the weight up slowly. Then while keeping tension, contracting the weight down a little quicker but still maintaining control and SQUEEZING at the bottom. The squeeze is my favorite part these days as I really feel the target muscle working. 3️⃣ Stability: Throughout the whole movement, I’m squeezing the shit out of my core. This helps me eliminate momentum. In the past, momentum helped me lift more weight but not get the most out of the movement. The ego LOVED this. (1st rep still have some swing but I correct it going forward) 4️⃣ Constant Tension: this has been the hardest thing for me to adopt because it makes each movement SO much harder. Without keeping constant tension I had mini breaks in between reps. In short, less time under tension, so less effective. 5️⃣ Conscious Contraction: at the end of the movement, I’m squeezing the shit out of my triceps. This is where I notice the mind and body connecting. Compared to my previous training style, I FEEL so much more of the muscle and my brain is much more in tune with each individual muscle. I feel like I’m much more in control of my body and how I move. • • I used to think Mind Muscle Connection wasn’t that important or even real. But now I’ve experienced the difference, I love it and I embrace it. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
First workout at the gym in 4.5 months and it felt AMAZING! I’m motivated to workout on my own, and have been doing it all summer, but to just show up and have someone else run me through a class...YES PLEASE! . I’m a personal trainer in the winter and put together my own weight training programs when I’m home, but having my cardio organized for me, and feeling the energy from the rest of the class...so refreshing! .
