“Death is what gives life meaning. To know your days are numbered. Your time is short. You'd think after all this time, I'd be ready. But look at me. Stretching one moment out into a thousand... just so that I can watch the snow.”

#Oldboy (2003) from the #RevengeTrilogy by #ParkChanwook
This is the second film from the Revenge Trilogy, after Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance (2002) and before Lady Vengeance (2005). The name of the protagonist Oh Dae-su originated from Oedipus, the tragic hero in Greek mythology who ended up loving his own birth mother.
Given the lack of promotion as well as the fact that it was released straight to iTunes, I should've expected "Slice" to be a bad film, however, with a trailer that looked somewhat promising, one of my favorite rappers as a lead actor and A24 as a distributed, I decided to give it a go but unfortunately it turned out to be much, much worse then I could've imagined! From the trailer, I expected an 80's style horror film and instead I got a movie that couldn't find a steady tone to save its life and in turn felt like a bad mix of comedy, horror, and murder mystery, none of which were done right. The humor fell completely flat the entire film and it was no where near scary but what really annoyed me was that first time director Austin Vesely tried way too hard to create a cult classic and ultimately it turned out to be dreadfully boring and highly unmemorable. In addition, the acting in the film was just as bad as the script itself. I love Chance the Rapper as an artist so it pains me to have to admit that he really should stick to rapping. Zazie Beetz, who I loved in "Deadpool 2" as well as "Atlanta" looked very uncomfortable in her role which is a shame because she has potential to be a great actress. At 85 minutes, this film felt like an eternity and as I was waiting for it to end, I couldn't help but wonder why A24 would choose to pick up a film like this but thankfully we have other gems from them this year to make up for this boring and unentertaining mess of a movie.
Having a care team that encourages you to get exercise and fresh air is invaluable when you’re admitted. Makes the days go by much quicker. Also, even though it’s 90° outside, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear this sweatshirt while having a needle in my chest (aka port accessed) 😝 #movienerdmoment
