My sweet little momma hiked with me today. Was road blocked by a cottonmouth 🐍 and had to back track but ended up at the live Gorman Falls! So. Incredible. The sound of the water was so calming and peaceful. Nature is so magnificent 💚 #fightorflight #flightalwaysflight #getoutside #movementheals

, speaks to me in ways that help me on my own journey to heal with codependency... but I find these next set of words to be helpful collectively and may resonate with you even if your journey and past looks different than mine. For that I want to share:
Our level of commitment to a project, a cause or even a simple to-do is revealed in fire. Some prefer flight over fight. Resolve is a learned behavior. It is practiced, rehearsed, and rewarded.
Why be anyone else? .
Because I specialize in anxiety and anger management, I often work with kids and teens and college students who feel pretty sure that they’re not the best version of themselves. They wish they were calmer, they wish they were more competent, they wish they had more confidence. But it’s very hard to work on yourself and your behaviors when you already feel like you’re worthless. Self-confidence and anxiety management go hand-in-hand. So instead of focusing on everybody else, let’s turn that focus back to you. What are you already doing well? What are you proud of yourself for? What’s something great you did this week? We need that strong, confident foundation before we work on improving what’s already going well. .

I sure needed this read today: "Girl, get ahold of your life. Stop medicating, stop hiding out, stop being afraid, stop giving away pieces of yourself, stop saying you can't do it. Stop the negative self-talk, stop abusing your body, stop putting it off for tomorrow or Monday or next year. Stop crying about what happened and take control of what happens next. Get up, right now. Rise up from where you've been, scrub away the tears and the pain of yesterday, and start again....Girl, wash your face!"

I read a paper years ago by a college professor who also used to compete as an amateur boxer. One line from it that really stood out to me was a quote from the film Fight Club by Tyler Durden “ how much can you know about yourself if you’ve never been in a fight “. And unless you have fought you probably will have no idea what I talk about..
You get something from boxing, as I imagine any other combat sport, that you just will not get from other sports. It teaches you lessons that far surpass the boxing ring. Lessons and qualities that you take through your whole life with you. Discipline. Patience. Respect. It teaches you how to face fear, and then overcome it..
You learn something about yourself that you never knew was there..
In the beginning are terrified. Afraid of embarrassing yourself. Afraid of letting people down. Afraid of getting hurt. It’s the one place where you really do pay the full price if you don’t prepare properly for it. You feel like vomiting. You are in and out of the bathroom 5-6 times and hour. You shake. You spent the whole night before hand going through it in your head..
But you overcome all that. You see it through. You trusted yourself enough that you had done enough to prepare yourself. That fear stays right with you tho. Right up until the first bell rings. And then just like that, bang, the fear slips away. It’s replaced by something else. That one thing you never knew was there. A calmness. An ability to see things as clear as day as this person rushes at you trying to take your head off. The sounds of everyone outside disappear. The shouting. The cheering. Gone. You see nothing other than the person in front of you. And you realize just that...he’s a person. Just like you. All the night before you created a monster in your head. An immortal. And now you see. You see him for what he is. He is you. All you have to do is overcome yourself..
You NEVER EVER forget lessons like that. You carry that with you forever. You begin to understand that fear is created in your own head. What I fear, you may not fear, and vice versa. But the things we fear, can be overcome, if you keep your head in the game and you trust in yourself.
October 11th 2017 became the worse day of my life!!!! One kid lost his life to the grave another to his freedom!!!! Both mothers ,families are no longer the same...no proms, graduation, jobs, wives, kids etc....And as time get closer to this year mark it’ gets harder everyday . See the days when you are alone and everyone Goes on with there lives you still are the grieving a depressed mother with all the question marks??? What happened? What did I do wrong? What was wrong between both parties???Your day can go from normal to change in seconds for the rest of your life!!! along with your family..As a mother on the other side of glass it’s really barely heard of or talked about but i am the voice for those mothers .... it’s hard for us because we are painted as the bad the ugly and lack of structure in the household...well I’m here to say that is not true and this is a pain and heart ache that I wish upon no one .... but through all of this I know Allah gave me a purpose to speak out to the youth to sympathize the victims side to do whatever Allah allows me to do to save our babies from gun violence, drug abuse and build a safe haven I cannot save the world but I can try to make a change these tragedies from our babies killing each other and being lost is a big gap that’s not understood..... I pray we can all come together so no one will ever have to face these type of tragedies but again I speak out to say the other side isn’t always the bad side and to know we all loose at the end I will speak out I will do what I can to make a change for our babies #unity #saveoursons #stoptheviolence #noguns #peaceonthestreets #peace #love #kids #activist #stopbullying #fightorflight #saveourboys #fromtheotherside #hearourvoice

FACE YOUR FEAR
Sometimes, we react to situations as if we are under threat or pressure... our heart races, we feel anxious, overwhelmed 😯. Here are some helpful hints from neuroscience that may help you remain calm in these moments:
1. Recognise the Fight or flight response is a physiological chemical/hormonal reaction that occurs in response to a real or perceived harmful event or threat. The nervous system and muscles prepare for action, get "hyped up". This can lead to emotional reactivity, anxiety and tension.
2. Label your emotions.
To calm yourself, you need to interrupt the feedback loop of the fight or flight response.
Research has shown that you can reduce the "fight or flight" signals from your brain if you label your emotions and reactions. Eg. I am anxious about jumping off this pier.
3. Slow your breathing: calm down brain and body by slow deep vs shallow breathing.
4. Notice & calm your self talk
During the fight or flight, self talk can sometimes be unhelpful, catastrophic and contribute to the distress. Give yourself the type of reasoned, helpful and reassuring words that you would give a friend ( eg. "You can do it, ready set go" VS "this is going to be a disaster"). Hopefully these tips will be a starting point to becoming calmer in your life. To cope better and take the steps you need for a calmer life.
