Hard truths (and a little long)-
It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine, people lying to themselves.
If you feel the need to verbally justify what you’re eating, then there’s a problem. It might not be the food itself, it could be something mental/emotional, but either way, there is a problem.
I was told this was a conflict of my values. And that’s probably true. But you know what? I’m okay with that. If you aren’t willing to change the problem, then complaining about it and/or lying to yourself about it isn’t going to do you any favours.
Part of the reason why this bothers me is because I never did it. I never tried to justify what I was eating. I ate what I wanted when I wanted and to hell with the consequences. At the height of the worst of my eating, I would occasionally feel guilty, but then I’d eat a bag of potato chips and forget all about it, only to repeat the cycle.
But I still never lied to myself about it.
I learned to accept myself who I was (personality wise) and owned my mistakes.
You can still enjoy food. You can still enjoy the things you love. If you can’t have them in moderation, then find healthier ways to have the things you love.
Years ago, when I was on a low sugar diet, that didn’t last long, I wanted tacos. The seasoning mix we used had a lot of sugar in it, so I took to google and found a receipe that didn’t contain any. To this day, I still use that receipe.
Food does not have to be the enemy!
