October 2016: the month everything changed, the month I lost and found myself. I remember standing in @target looking at shirts holding a size 3X and told myself that that was it, I was free to make any changes I wanted to myself from here on out after I split with my ex of 13 years. I had tried losing weight before, like most people I was a yo-yo dieter, I tried the fads, the pills, the quick fixes but unsurprisingly nothing stuck. In all honesty, I wasn’t happy in any aspect of my life and I ate my feelings. I would make excuses to validate the choices I made, but I wasn’t mentally or emotionally stable enough at the time. Growing up, everything was based around food, it was shown to be something to have during the happy and sad moments in life so that was the habit I had, that mentality was my destruction. I was not looking at food as fuel, but a filler for feelings. After I started my new life, as a single mom, I was told by a trainer that I would be a size small once I was competition ready, I said ‘that’s impossible, I’ve never been a size small.’ Fast forward to April 2018, I entered Target looking for a new shirt...I bought it in a size small. Part 4 of our Italy trip. We stopped at a bistro after the Vatican as it had started to rain. After a bite and back to the hotel for jackets we metro'd it to the Spanish Stairs and Trevi Fountain. This morning I got in 8.5mi to the Piazza del Popolo, the Villa Medici, the Pantheon, St Angelo Castle, St Peter's Square, and around the back of the Vatican. Before leaving we grabbed a bite to eat in the Spanish Square and a treat from Venchi. We're at the airport on our way the hot now but had a fantastic time! My thoughts and beliefs on the dieting industry, and why my clients achieve their goals. I think that we have been so conditioned by diets and fads over the years that we have got to the point where healthy and fit = pain and hardship. Think about it... Every fad diet/pill/magic juice is nowhere near as enjoyable as eating actual food and eating the foods you enjoy (plus still drinking alcohol!). Throughout a clients journey there will be points where it is easy but yet we get results still. "it really doesn't feel like anything I have done before." - a common message I receive. They actually start to feel a sense of guilt at how easy it is. Leading them to look back with sadness and a sense of anger at all the time wasted on crappy diets in their past 😞 If you're eating all the foods you enjoy, but in a calorie deficit and using effective and challenging workouts (even just twice a week for some!) then you're going to see results. ✖ STOP overthinking it. ✖ STOP making it harder than it needs to be. ✖ STOP the diet pain and stress. ✅ START. Quads on fiya! Tabata Power is no joke. I miss my Max30 days of feeling like an athlete and conquering some hard workouts. It feels good to revisit them and see how much stronger I've gotten since I did them over a year ago. To look back and see how far you've come can be helpful when you feel down and out. That's just it about life, isnt it? We feel discouraged when we aren't at the finish line fast enough for a goal we set. But it takes time to refine. It can sometimes feel painful, but if you take steps everyday to get there, you're on the right track. Keep pushing. I have lost 70 lbs just with nutrition and lifting weights. It’s Transformation Tuesday! So far, I’m down 37.2 lbs. I try to share my journey on my InstaStory to debunk the myths that you need to starve or deprive yourself in order to lose weight or that you have to take up some insane workout routine. I basically just started by jumping up and down on my rebounder (trampoline) for 3 minutes or going for walks. Now, I find that the more I see my body transform and the more my body is able to do, the more I want to move. I am so amazed at how yoga has transformed my body’s flexibility and now I’m working on my stamina and strength. But, I make sure that I enjoy the process and that exercise doesn’t become a dreadful thing that I “have to” do. More than anything the journey has been about letting go of expectations and just listening to my body and what it really needs. I don’t focus on numbers, and basically just go by how I look and feel. It’s so easy to get obsessed with all the numbers (calories, weight, pants size etc) but you can’t force the process. Diets don’t work because they are focused on numbers that work against your body. By working with your body, you can learn to eat intuitively and naturally let go of the weight you no longer need. It’s about incorporating long term habits that you can sustain in the long run and above all it’s about owning and enjoying the process. #transformationtuesday and I want to demystify macros for you! Every week when I talk about how I lost weight and have been maintaining my goal weight for a year I say that it’s due to keto and eating within my macros. And that’s true! I didn’t need powders/pills/wraps/or shakes! Just good whole foods! ——— What are macros? When I say macro I mean my breakdown of the calories I am supposed to consume daily to maintain ketosis and either lose or maintain weight. When I was losing weight I had a caloric deficit. Now that I am maintaining I don’t. Your calories are broken down into carbs(20g net or less), protein,& fats. ——— So how do I find out what I need? Well the easiest(&free) way is to use an online calculator! Not all are equal, I have found that Ruled.Me’s website is probably one of the best. They take into account activity level and bodyfat%& in my experience don’t overestimate is protein. ——— Once you figure out what your caloric need is &the breakdown you NEED to eat within those numbers! That means you DO NOT want to be going over you macros! Protein is one that you want to get to or slightly under. Fat is a GOAL and many people are confused saying it’s a lever. You are on a Ketogenic diet: a HIGH fat, moderately low protein, low carb diet. That means the majority of the calories you eat need to come from. This is a longer explanation then I have room for here, but there is SIGNIFICANT peer reviewed research to support this and I will try and do another post this week on it. Carbs are not a goal! Carbs are a limit, do NOT exceed the limit. ———— You need to TRACK your food. For me I find the easiest way to do this is using Myfitnesspal. I track the night before ALWAYS. It is easier to eat within your macros if you Day is planned BEFORE you start eating. I track my breakfast,dessert, &dinner 1st! Whatever is left I use to make a salad with! If I need more fats I add dressing/oils/cheese/avocado! If I need protein I add meats/eggs! It is so easy when you do it like this! Not the most exciting breakfast photo! I made scotch eggs last night and I'm having one for breakfast and one for a snack this afternoon. After finding the 5% fat pork mince a bit dry last time, I went back to my favourite method using 2 Porky Light sausages per large hard boiled egg and cook for 25 mins at 190C. The calorie/macro graphic is for a single scotch egg. 😫My Biggest Fat Loss Mistakes😫 by @jordenpagel ⠀ Mistake #1 - ​I ate with an end in mind ⠀ If you're eating to lose fat with an end date in mind, you're going to fall. Plain and simple. ⠀ The truth is, fat loss has no end date. If you want to lose fat, and have a lean, muscular physique for the rest of your life, you have to change the way you approach eating forever. The days of not caring about what you eat are over. ​⠀ Mistake #2 - I only did cardio ⠀ Somehow I got it in my head that if I wanted to lose fat, I needed to run and bike and do only elliptical machines at the gym. ⠀ Problem was I HATED cardio. Running hurt my already stressed knees, and spending hours on the machines at the gym was boring AF. ⠀ And that was the problem - I hated the exercise I was doing. I hated physical activity because I didn't take the time to find something I enjoyed - until I found strength training. ⠀ And while you should always do something you enjoy, if you want to improve your physique like you never have before, strength training is your answer. ⠀ Mistake #3 - ​I thought I had to suffer ⠀ ​For the longest time, I believed if I wanted to see success, I had to suffer for it. Restrictive diets, exercise I hated, never being able to do anything fun...ever. ⠀ I won't lie, losing 80 pounds of fat did take a lot of sacrifice. But none of it was long-term. ⠀ Did it feel like a sacrifice in the moment, when I'd be out with friends, and I'd be drinking water, or not eating because I had my macros planned out for a meal at home? Of course. But eventually, I realized I was only suffering because I told myself I should be suffering. I told myself that because I didn't get to do what I wanted (eat and drink with my friends) that I needed to feel bad about it. ⠀ But suffering is a choice. ​Yes, you do have to give up things in the short-term. But for everything you give up, you are always getting something back - be it progress towards your goal, or experience building those long-term, sustainable habits. ⠀ And if you're not getting anything back, the reality is you're not giving up what you need to. The two ALWAYS go hand in hand. ⠀ So...which mistake are you making?
One of the worst enemies of achieving your fat loss goal is ketchup. Just one tablespoon of commercially prepared ketchup typically contains four grams of sugar. And many people consume much more than one tablespoon at a time, which quickly builds up your daily sugar load. Go out to adventure.‬ ⠀ ‪Go on snowboard vacations with the great grandkids.‬ ⠀ ‪Run a mile for the hell of it.‬ ⠀ ‪Not have to worry about falling because you might not get up.‬ ⠀ ‪And still able to share the love with your special someone.‬ ⠀ ‪Just imagine if living your life, meant you got to live.‬
