Thoracic extension is a movement that is lacking in athletes and the general population alike. As much as we hate it, day to day life has us sitting 💺more often than not. Studying ✏️, working 💻 or chilling with some TV 📺 while seated all contribute to kyphotic (rounded upper back) posture.
Kyphosis can lead directly to neck and shoulder pain, as well as indirectly to everywhere else down the kinetic chain. Pair this with forward head posture ➡️ from texting 📱and you can expect to be in a world of pain and dysfunction. More on this in a later post.

The counterbalance single-leg squat to bench is one of our favourite single-leg exercises. It’s a fantastic choice for improving relative leg strength and requires excellent balance, mobility and coordination..
Why we love this exercise:.
1. It’s not about pure strength. It requires a significant amount of hip, knee & ankle stability and mobility.
2. Identification of left and right leg strength discrepancies. It helps to make sure each leg is equally developed in strength and function compared to the other.
3. It teaches you how to load your hips & groove the hip hinge pattern. You have to be able to posteriorly shift your weight.
4. It minimizes the work load & stress on the joints when performed properly.
5. It has a direct effect on improving your bilateral lifts and overall strength..
We program the single-leg squat to balance out other bigger movements like the squat and deadlift, making you a stronger and more efficient mover..

Fascial Stretch Therapy is a GAME CHANGER 🙌
“FST” is a type of stretching that targets not only the muscles, but the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints. FST also targets the entire joint and joint capsule, using traction to remove restrictions from movement and to stimulate lubrication.
A Fascial Stretch Therapist will gently pull and move the arms, legs, spine, and neck in a smooth motion through varying planes of movement. There is no pain, not even discomfort. Instead, the gentle movement is stimulating and relaxing at the same time.
We also use PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) like Active Release Technique. ART is a bit more aggressive whereas FST is all about “Romancing” the nervous system. Both use your own contraction and relaxation to help your body give into a deeper stretch without protective contractions “Stretch Reflex”. Sudden or deep stretching can cause a reflex contraction in the muscle as the spindles sense the stretch and send an action potential to the motor neurons which then cause the muscle to contract.

Le weekend passé j'ai eu la chance d'assister à de grandes conférences données par des SCIENTIFIQUES devenus YOGINIS.
Dans mon parcours de thérapeute j'ai eu l'immense privilège d'étudier les fascias, et c'est ce thème qui était d'ailleurs exploré ce weekend.
Les dernières études 🔬démontrent que le yoga et la respiration amèneraient une certaine MODIFICATION GÉNÉTIQUE à la cellule.
Que par la simple action de prendre le temps d'écouter sa respiration pour modifier notre environnement intérieur, cet acte viendrait contrer les effets de la DÉCROISSANCE cellulaire.
Ce que tu dois comprendre des fascias, c'est que plus tu es dans la RÉSISTANCE que ce soit physique ou émotionnelle, tes cellules se rétractent et rapetissent jusqu'à ne plus faire leur travail adéquatement...la cellule qui s'éteint c'est aussi un peu la fin de la vie... Le fascia est un monde super intriguant, outre le fait que je suis une super nerd 🤓 de ce tissu, tu comprends que je suis doublement heureuse de voir l'avancement scientifique qui appuient ces méthodes datant de milliers d'années!

Last weekend I attended some amazing conferences given by SCIENTISTS who became YOGINIS.
What a blessing!
My journey as a body worker brought me places I can't be more grateful for; like studying the FASCIAS, which was one of the main topic explored during that event.
Some of the latest studies showed how yoga and breath work are MODIFYING the cell GENETIC structure.
That by the simple act of listening to your breath yo modify you internal environnement, this would counteract the effect of cellular DEGROWTH.
What you need to know about the fascias is that the more you are into RESISTANCE, physically or emotionally, it will affect the cel structure 👉🏻 retracting herself and she then shrinks to the state of no longer being able to do her job right....And where the cell is put out, life can NO LONGER be.
The world of fascias is super intriguing. I'm a total geek 🤓 for these tissus, and being happy about these finds are an understatement!
Sometimes we just have to adjust! 😝
In today’s workout my hands and wrists were extremely tight so by the time I got to my push-ups which were at the end of my workout every part of my body was screaming but my hands and wrists were killing me from gripping and stabilizing.
I didn’t stop, I adjusted! 😃
Turned my push-ups into fist push-ups which would take the pressure off my wrists and when the full push-ups got to crazy I dropped to my knees.
There is no shame in modifying or slowing down when your body really needs it.
When I finished the workout I made sure to give my hands, wrist and forearms a really good stretch, check the videos for the first push-ups and the stretches.

A body in pain is a body on guard, it makes no sense to treat pain with pain which is why FST is a completely pain free therapy.
I loosely define pain as ‘something you can’t wait to get out of or changes your natural breath in some way.’ For sustained results we need to romance your nervous system so it becomes accustomed to your new realignment.
Forcing your body into positions that doesn’t have you nervous on side will generally cause further pain and discomfort.
Getting your butt kicked in a tough workout is super cool and all in the moment, but doing it with proper alignment is extra cool.
Your body will thank you the next day (and for the rest of your life) if you can learn to slow down when needed and really focus on the alignment and quality of your movement. .
Is your spine lengthened? Are your shoulders back and down? Is your core gently engaged? Are you gripping or tensing anything unnecessarily? Are you breathing?
