It's a homecoming after all. Returning with my cup full from Germany I spent almost 2. 5 weeks in bed recovering from the German Influenza. I seriously don't think I've ever been so knocked down. I juiced and walked only, and I found myself back adventuring in Denmark (Western Australia) with the crusiest crew ever for night time beach four wheel driving, a little freediving and eating monster abalones. The last few weeks I had the privilege to assist @julie.hammond4 and @ Lou Benson @anatomytrainsau in Fremantle facilitating the @anatomytrainsofficial Structural Integration graduate course - with a couple of days of surf and clinic days at home in Margaret River sprinkled in here and there. We're on a break now, and it's been an absolute joy working with a group of the most curious students, soon to be my colleagues! We'll be back for the final sprint in a couple of weeks. Right now I'm at the airport in Perth on my way to Bangkok, travelling with the one and only @bonzfurzer to teach the one and only #AnatomyTrainsinMotion course developed by Karen Gurtner @art_of_motion_academy . And I keep rolling with a schedule until mid March that is filled with Anatomy Trains, Art of Motion courses, time with my @bodytuneup clients and of course in the ocean.  I'm in heaven. Are you taking care of your fascia? If not, you probably feel it. And if you did, you’d probably feel better in your body. Part of the Urban Wellness Weekend that I held two weeks ago in Cambridge included myofascial release instruction. Here, we’re working on the plantar fascia, one of just a handful of fascial areas in the body that gets its own name (the thoracolumbar fascia and tensor fascia latae are the others). This band of fascia is SO thick. When I did dissection and saw and felt it, I could feel how strong it was. Incredible! Think about it though; it supports our weight! So, it gets adhesions, tight and achy and many people complain of plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the fascia. So, daily rolling, compression and cross fiber work really helps. Got questions? Kleine Happy Day kreeg vandaag zijn tweede behandeling. Het is altijd zo leuk om te zien hoe elk paard weer op zijn eigen manier op de behandeling reageert en spanningen loslaat. Appy's heupen staan scheef, dus het behandelen van zijn heupen en bekken gaven dan ook wat flinke releases. Hij heeft een stuk of vier keer uitgebreid in de sneeuw liggen rollen tussen de verschillende handgrepen door en flink staan gapen met z'n tong uit de zijkant van z'n mond. Op de tweede foto zie je Appy voor de behandeling en op de derde foto Appy na de behandeling. Na de behandeling heeft Appy meer lengte in zijn lijf gekregen, zijn rechter heup (die hoger en verder naar voren staat dan de linker) is wat gezakt en meer in balans met de rest van zijn lijf. Zijn gewicht is daardoor ook beter verdeeld over drie benen. When I started to expand what self -care meant to me, beyond pilates, I started to realize that it's about daily ritual, healthy boundaries, and dedicated practice. Foam rolling can be used pre-workout to warm up and loosen muscles which in turn increase range of motion and #flexibility thus allowing you to move better during your #workout and reduce potential #injury . Post-workout rolling increases blood flow to the tissues and irons out the muscles that were used. This can help speed up recovery time. Well, that’s a lie, I’m just taking you through some foam rolling fundamentals. 😬 We can all use a foam roller to improve #muscle and #fascia quality/mobility by performing slow passes through commonly used muscles. As you can see in the video, it’s not usually a fun thing to do. 😢 It is actually possible to use the #foamroller incorrectly, as described in the videos ... Key take aways 🍟🍔 - Don’t rush - slow and steady - Find tight fibres and try to #relax into them, if they’re really uncomfortable it’s usually a sign! - Keep breathing (deeply) whilst rolling, holding breath > holding tension - Spend 2-3 mins per muscle group and split these over multiple days - you don’t have to #roll everywhere, that’s overwhelming - If you experience pain rather than discomfort, stop immediately - Enjoy the post roll #endorphin rush - Excuse the sound quality ... Sliding in yo dm’s like 🤣. In all seriousness these are side traveling apes and My coach has been programming animal flow into my conditioning sessions. With our sedentary lifestyles humans simply have forgot how to move correctly. These exercises help build strength, coordination, flexibility, and body control. I have felt the benefits of animal flow, and I strongly advise people to start incorporating them in their strength training routines. To become optimal we must train all energy systems and in my opinion we must not have a one size fits all approach to fitness.
