✊🏾 @fantagraphics

This part of Vanishing Act is a choose-your-adventure style story (which as a genre is rooted (I believe) in OuLiPo (at least Queneau has an early story that’s just that) about a dog who leaks into the internet, either as an art protect, or as a cult, or as a hoax, or as a few more possibilities that branch out and then swivel back into a single resolution. It goes all the way from Instagram fame to body horror. 😶
Four pages in total, I remember it took me about two months to figure out... Last time I did a couple of interactive readings of the thing at @booksonthepark
and it was lots of fun! Release party Dec 11 at City Lights. It will be fun too.

Here’s the bombastic opening of Vanishing Act: a rehearsal of an upcoming party in the mind of one very insecure guest. Spoiler alert: it gets worse.
Release event December 11th at City Lights in San Francisco (if that place is still hospitable). #comics #graphicnovel #fantagraphics
After 5 years I finally complete the #donrosalibrary
, I bought the five box set edition, that included 2 volumes for each box. Some of these box were never reprinted, and they are very rare! PROUD OF THIS TREASURE!
Went to value village for some winter shopping. Not much, but I did find a couple of oddball comics that I never heard of. Never knew about monster comics from fantagraphics.
Tyrannosaurus Rex by James Van Hise and Rob Wilber isn't that bad. Fun if dumb adventure "pulp" and its obvious its done by a coupme of their Eros guys. I do like how he draws the dinos. Id like to see more. Wilber is a great cartoonist.
The other is Caligari 2050 by Ken Holewczynki. Its a sequel to Dr. Caligari. Its not good and it has some of that very 90s Slave Labor feel I think. Its not the best sequel (that will always belong to Rinse Dream's smutty classic Dr. Caligari), but I do want to read the whole thing cause this line is so new to me. They also had an adaptation of the old movie, but it looked bleh.
It feels like they were trying for that 90s b&w floppy boom although not really succeeding. I can't find much right now, but if anyone knows anything id be curious. I'm also curious how a whole bunch of these ended up at the Burien Value Village. No variety, but multiple copies of just a few issues.

Here’s another preview of a bantery bit about sitcoms as performance art. #comics #graphicnovel #fantagraphics #ink #cartooning
We got to ink Matilda’s drawing of a cat with Jim Woodring’s giant pen at @comicartsbklyn
This weekend!! Scribbus Maximus! This dip pen was 4 feet tall and had a matching oversized inkwell along with it. Dream come true, though possibly more for Matilda who has been reading @jimwoodringcartoonist
’s wordless books since she was 3. It was a thrill for all of us to see him ink a huge portrait of Frank before we took our turn.
🇺🇸Today, we celebrate the courage and sacrifice of our veterans. A member of our artist family, Jess Ruliffson, travels the country to interview vets and tells their stories through compassionate, beautifully illustrated comics. It is a constant reminder to never forget their service and that not all wounds of war are physical. She is currently working on a graphic novel for @fantagraphics
, slated for release in 2019. We're so proud to house some of her amazing work at the shop 💗 Be sure to check out more at jessruliffson.com, and thank you to all the veterans for sharing your stories 🙇🏻♂️

Patrick’s pick of the week: 🌺How To Be Happy🍓
“Eleanor Davis’s How to be Happy is the artist’s first collection of graphic/literary short stories. Davis is one of the finest cartoonists of her generation, and has been producing comics since the mid-2000s. Happy represents the best stories she’s drawn for such curatorial venues as Mome and No-Brow, as well as her own self-publishing and web efforts. Davis achieves a rare, subtle poignancy in her narratives that are at once compelling and elusive, pregnant with mystery and a deeply satisfying emotional resonance. Happy shows the full range of Davis’s graphic skills ― sketchy drawing, polished pen and ink line work, and meticulously designed full color painted panels― which are always in the service of a narrative that builds to a quietly devastating climax.”
