Alexa, play She’s Like Texas by Josh Abbot Band. I swear there’s nothing prettier than Texas in the Spring.
One of the underlying reasons (there are many!) for hitting the road is exploring new places to live. I love Califonia, but have been ready for something new for a while. I don’t know when that return to sticks and bricks life will be, and I don’t know where it will be, but in the back of my mind I’m scouting.⠀
And it continues to come in loud and clear that the country is calling my name. Having grown up on a farm, I’ve always loved being in the country but was all too happy to return to the city after. But being on a solo road trip and experiencing so many things for the first time will really open up your mind. Maybe it’s the vulnerability, and maybe it’s having the quiet to process the smallest of details and how they affect me.⠀
When an old friend from my corporate days invited me to his ranch I was all too willing to accept. And spending time on 339 acres with good people, great food and animals of all kinds was an amazing gift. The dogs met livestock up close and personal and ran to their hearts content which can sometimes be tough to pull off on a trip like this and with dogs like mine.⠀
So when I pulled out my camera one morning and caught this flicker of orange out of the corner of my eye I was all too happy I had my long lens on. Just two boys whose company is better than most sitting on a dock waiting for the catfish to bite. No screens or artificial entertainment, just patient persistence they kept returning to throughout the weekend. Now if only that lens could’ve captured their conversation...⠀
Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven Doug and Wendy. It’s a weekend I won’t soon forget!!⠀

|| Wetlands love to show their #mussels
This freshwater species, most likely a Paper Pondshell (Utterbackia imbecillis), plays an important role filtering out bacteria like E. coli from our water. 💪
Mussels are some of the hardest working organisms around! The small but mighty freshwater mussels of Texas provide considerable ecosystem services to watersheds around the state via water purification, carbon storage, and habitat structure.
We can thank our Texas mussels by protecting the habitats they need to survive, including wetlands, streams, and riparian buffers. 📸 @expecto_suzanne

Cheers to the Spring Equinox! 🌱☀️Bring on the whites!
The sky looked like this for about 1 minute only.

Oh how swiftly another trip around the sun has gone by 🌹🥂 .
Although, I am a tad bit late writing this post but it’s truly so hard to believe that this picture was taken a year ago. While my 22nd birthday adventure in Europe was spectacular; it’s so insane to me how far I’ve come since then. Twenty two year old Gaby was so lost , with no clue where she was going , what she wanted out of life and was honestly had soo much to learn about self awareness . ✨♥️
If there’s anything I would want younger me to know is that , you are your expectations , as cheesy as it sounds if you really want something out of this one life were given , you have to go all in and never look back . You are all you’ll ever need and your sensitivity is your strength babygirl , never change who you are no matter the circumstances, just change the scenery if necessary. ✊🏼
Stop # 4
We were #sandblasted
while we hit the slopes and the West Texas wind gusts were too much for an overnight stay. Still had a blast and we’ll be looking for a second opportunity to stop in. Perhaps a trip to the Davis Mountains?
