After falling in love with the original @draftland
in Taipei last year, I was eagerly awaiting the launch of the Hong Kong location in late December.
While many HK bars are known for their love of extravagant (and often superfluous) garnishes, the Draftland concept takes things in a different direction, eschewing fussiness in favour of speed, simplicity and consistency.
The bar does have quite a different feel from the Taiwan original. While the industrial style decor and grey walls have remained, the HK bar is much larger, gas more seating and opens out directly onto . This does take away some of the intimacy, but it does work well as a people-watching spot.
The drinks are simple, clean and balanced (if not mind-blowing) - I'm a particular fan of the whiskey fizz. Overall: solid drinks, quick and friendly service and a great starting point for a night in Central.
1) Sherry Cobbler (sherry, vodka, pineapple, citrus) and Milk Tea Punch (rum, brandy cinnamon, citrus, whey)
2) Nitro Espresso Martini (vodka, cold brew, vanilla)
3) Whiskey Fizz (whiskey, pineapple citrus, whey, salt)
