In one of my previous posts I spoke about how my nearly 9 year old son had been having issues focusing and controlling his emotions - he is a very sensitive soul - 🦋 . It had been brought up by several of his teachers at school to potentially look into medicating him.. . Loneliness is defined purely subjectively. It depends solely on weather you feel emotionally or socially disconnected from those around you. There is a lot of research around loneliness and all is horrifying, It won’t just make you miserable; chronic loneliness increases your likelihood of an early death. It causes high blood pressure, high cholesterol, it even suppresses the function of your immune system 😱 making you vulnerable to all kinds of illnesses and diseases. . Fun fact (not so funny though) : Chronic loneliness poses as significant a risk for your long-term health and longevity as cigarette smoking! At least cigarette packs come with warnings saying “this could kill you”. But loneliness doesn’t! And that’s why it’s so important we start prioritising our psychological health, that we practice emotional hygiene. . The skill of self-confidence ⠀ ⠀ ✨One thing I think we can all agree on is how easily self-confidence fluctuates. Some people think that we’re just naturally born with confidence, but I personally believe it’s a skill that’s developed throughout life. Dr. Ivan Joseph spoke about treating your self-confidence as a skill in his talk! He provides a few techniques on how to improve on this necessary life skill.⠀ ⠀ 💫Repetition and persistence: we usually just expect to be self-confident but it’s difficult to do that unless the skill we’re dong isn’t novel. Put yourself in situations that require you to harness that confidence. You need to be in a situation where you’ve done it a thousand times that the pressure doesn’t break you. But how many of us bail after our first failure? ⠀ ⠀ 🌟Self-talk and affirmations: most of the time that little voice inside of our heads tends to be negative. There’s already enough people in the world telling you that you can’t accomplish certain things; give yourself that reaffirmation. Thoughts influence action! Create your own affirmation that resonates with you and will always spring you back into action. You know that 5, 10, 15, or even 20 lbs you want to lose? I lost it and kept it off for a few years so I want you to know what it took to lose that 15 lbs so you can really decide if it’s something you truly want. This, for sure, isn’t everyone’s story with weightloss, but I know that it is the story of a lot of people so I have to share. Thus, if you’re doing your diet and tracking all your food and you’re truly happy, keep doing your thing. That’s what’s amazing about body autonomy and choice and growing up. We really do get to decide. To lose that 15 lbs it took me saying no to connecting with the humans I love over delicious food. It took me saying no to getting ice cream with Scarlett. I would take her and watch her eat it, which again wasn’t as pleasurable as sharing in the experience together. Plus, what am I teaching my daughter? It took me prioritizing how I LOOK over my QUALITY OF LIFE. I got the “perfect” instagram body and was walking around in the body that many women told me was their “dream body” and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been more miserable because of what it took to get it!! It took missing out on so many things. When we’re being honest, health is a balance of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. And I never realized how out of balance I was (wayyy too focused on the physical) and how incorrect it was for me to call occasionally ordering pizza unhealthy or getting ice cream with my daughter unhealthy when it brings some of the greatest joy I’ve ever known. Some of the most healing, beautiful, and emotionally healthy times in my life have been Rick and I in our pajamas on the couch sharing ice cream, and I’m just not willing to trade those out to be 15 lbs lighter. For what? To buy a smaller size at the store to make me somehow more worthy as a woman? Pass the ice cream please. Again we get to decide. But I have to share my story so you can see plainly what the extra 15 (or however many) lbs you’re carrying around is. It’s your LIFE! And at the of our life what are the things we are going to look back on and say? For me, I will for sure not be 80 saying: “I lived a good life. I lost the 15 lbs and kept it off.”

There are so many big feelings many of us carry that we don’t let OUT, let alone process and heal. This creates blocks, dams, barriers that will leak, break, explode, implode, or otherwise rear their heads in not great ways, if we don’t tend to what is in our hearts and spirits. Women are taught & shamed into holding IN our feelings bcuz the dis-eased, dehumanizing #colonistculture is misogynist and tries to shame women (and men big time too) FOR our feelings. We’re told they get in the WAY of “rationality”, when in fact it’s the opposite! Emotions are part of being HUMAN! Seems the goal OF the #colonist #culture is to NOT be human, what with its techNOlogic race to & obsession with “automation.” The #MentalHealthIndustrialComplex is sure as hell trying to “automate” our feelings – to oblivion! * Our feelings are what make us HUMAN, ALIVE and where HELLA POWER resides. We need to make SPACE for our feelings, AND share them with trusted others, so they and we can be held. This lessens the intensity of the painful, wounded parts of us AND is incredibly healing. The PSOAS Muscle and how to stretch it. Keep watching for a video on how to stretch your psoas Important to note 📝 1) do this stretch beside a wall if you feel unstable 2) your knees and hips need to be lined up at 90/90 like I indicate in the video 3) you need to engage your core and tuck your pelvis >under< 4) drive your pelvis forward by activating your glutes (squeeze your 🍑) - we’re not looking for a long lunge here, keep your upper body upright and once your pelvis is tucked drive your whole pelvis forwards 5) for a deeper stretch lift your arm (same side as psoas muscle you’re stretching) and gently lean back on a 45deg angle. Note- there are many variations of a psoas muscle stretch. This is the one I most commonly recommend as most people ‘feel’ it working. However it may not be the best one for you if it causes pain or you feel no relief from it. If you’re either of the last 2 options (pain or no relief) then we would need to do a physical assessment with you and figure out your WHY. We lie. We disconnect.⁣ ⁣ And we suffer.⁣ ⁣ On the other hand, when we refuse to back down and do what the shame demands, we become powerful.⁣ ⁣ When I went through my divorce years ago I was terrified that if anyone found out, they would never trust me is their therapist.⁣ ⁣ Shame told me I needed to keep it hidden.⁣ ⁣ But that would never be possible, and I knew if I tried I would always worry that someone might discover it.⁣ ⁣ So instead, I rebelled against the shame. Top Ten Emotional Needs of Children Here is a list of what could be called the top 10 human emotional needs of children and adults, in alphabetical order. It is intended to be a general guide. Each person's needs will vary according to the individual. We believe that if parents adequately fill all of their children's needs, then the child's or teen's behavior will take care of itself. We also believe that feelings predict behavior, so if children and teens have positive feelings, positive behavior will naturally follow. What about respected, important, validated for example? In creating the first list it was decided that if a child or teen felt all the feelings in top ten list, they would also feel respected. Likewise if they felt understood they would feel validated, listened to and not invalidated. And if they felt valued, they would feel important and needed. Finally, if they felt supported and safe, this would contribute much to feeling free since they would not feel afraid to try new things, express differing opinions or or go new places. 🌟What We Resist Persists 🌟 Anything we are pushing away from us will persist. We cannot resist something and simultaneously not focus on it. And what we focus on we attract. Usually what we are resisting mostly are negative feelings, emotions, situations etc. So they keep coming back... What can we do instead? We can allow, accept, bring them toward us, go into them fully as if we have chosen them! What the f you might think. Why on earth would we consciously go towards something we don’t want? Because when we will accept these parts of us fully, feel them fully - then they no longer have any power over us. 🌟 Nothing is seperate from us. Happy Tuesday everyone and can we also start calling this Truth Tuesday? Just a suggestion 🤗 I don’t know about you all, but when I came across this quote today it really touched my heart. Honesty time, as a perfectly imperfect woman, I often struggle with this concept of “it’s okay not being Okay and putting my trust elsewhere.” Truth time, my husband and I have been struggling with infertility since 2015 (5 rounds of IVF, 4 IUIs and 1 FET(frozen embryo transfer)). It can be sooo exhausting and takes an emotional toll. Through the support of my family and friends, I have had a beautifully safe place to explore my emotions without judgement. I also can’t even imagine doing this without the strength of my husband. 🥰 I realized that for me to encourage vulnerability not only in myself, but also with my clients, I need to be open during this process. I know how it feels to be the only person in a group of women going through this journey and not having anyone to relate to. So to those of you on a tough journey (whether infertility or another life transition), You are not alone, you are perfect as you are and to add a spiritual spin, God has a plan for each and every one of us. 🙏🏻
