CENTURY : EASTERN WONDERS || Still quite popular with my group. You can sometimes knock back two games in an hour... I had mentioned that I think this takes longer to set up than Spice Road, but if you don't have to teach, the game does flow quite quickly. I think both Century games are very elegantly designed on their own. I'm leaning toward liking Eastern Wonders more due to it having less of a luck factor than Spice Road's card deck. But I'd gladly play either of them.
CENTURY : EASTERN WONDERS || Quotable 🤣 "I don't even know what I'm trying to do here." || That Quotable was exactly everyone's reaction at playing Sand to Sea, the combined version of Century: Spice Road and Century: Eastern Wonders.
My conclusion after this first play is that I prefer the games separate rather than together... The only thing Sand to Sea takes from Spice Road is the hand cards. Everyone starts with their same two cards and the card actions are exactly the same as Spice Road, meaning you can convert using your cards, or using the tile spaces. You still have to build an outpost in order to convert using a tile. There is no harvest action any longer since everyone has their cards to gain or upgrade spices.
You also still have to move to get to the harbors for the victory tiles and here is where it gets annoying. In order to move, you must use a card. It could be a card from your hand, or a card you've already played for its ability. You can move as many spaces as cards you use.
So, the game basically doubles in length because not only do you now need to pick up cards for eventual movement, you also have to do all the things you already do in Eastern Wonders. I think it's unnecessary as either game stands well on its own. I'll definitely try it again to see if that opinion changes.
Have you tried Sand to Sea? Did you like it?

Played this majestic game tonight. Pretty fun and outrageously frustrating to make all cards work your way. Components are very nice as well.. definitely a level up from Azul!
El nuevo Century ya está en casa 🐱
I know I am a quite late to the party on this one, but for one reason or another, hadn’t played #centuryspiceroad
until yesterday 🐪🐪
In this game you are a caravan leader traying to earn fame and glory all across the silk road. On each turn, players perfom 1 of 4 actions. These are: Establish a route by buying a card from the market and adding it to their hand; Make a trade by playing a card from their hand; Fulfill a demand by claiming a victory points card; and Rest which basically means put the played cards back to your hand 🐫
As soon as a player claims their fifth victory card (or sixth on a 2p game) last round is triggered, and the one who has the most victory points is the winner 🏆🥇
First thing I have to say is that I was not as impressed by the game as I expected, true that we were playing only a 2 player game, so there is not that much movement on the market cards, but still. May it be the hype from the whole last year that increased the expectations? I don’t know. Do you think it fits better higher number of players? 👫
On the positive side is very easy to teach/learn and get up to speed, components are good, and the illustrations on the victory points cards are very beautiful. A half an hour engine building with card drafting, deck building and hand management. An “ok” game to me 👍

CENTURY : EASTERN WONDERS || Third play of this game last night. Concluded that gamers who prefer less luck would like this game over Spice Road. The key difference is that you are not drawing the conversion cards. Instead, all the conversion spaces are available on the board, and you just have to choose a path to get from one to another. Because of this, i've found that nearly every game I play starts with a land grab as everyone tries to build as many free trading posts as they can before actually getting any cubes. There are also not any spaces that just give you cubes, every space is a conversion. So, there are not any that are inherently superior. In Spice Road there are always cards that everyone just goes for when they appear. Also I always go for the extra ship movement bonus and it's worked well for me. I've never taken the free upgrade when building outposts... Seems inferior to the extra move and the red cube when harvesting. Thoughts?
First play of Reef from @next_move_games
and this game is challenging. The chunky bits are amazing but getting them on the board is brain burning. This is the abstract game for abstract gamers. A deep puzzle with lots of moving parts. #reef #emersonmatsuuchi #boardgames
Ooohh... what a great twist to a game we already know and love with easy to understand rules. Beautiful artwork and great components adds charming details. The player mat is such a addition (need to get the mats for Century Spice Road and Golem Edition!!) I love that this is another great family weight game and will be a hit w/our kids and their cousins.
Mr. Matsuuchi, what a brilliant, humble not to mention "a man of his word" (described by @new2boardgames
) as he agreed to and met w/us again (the next day) at DTC just so we could get him to sign our copy of the game 🤗

🇬🇧 "Reef" by Emerson Matsuuchi published by "Pegasus Spiele" 🐠
I'm a big fan of "Azul" so while I first saw "Reef" I knew that I need this game in my collection 😄
By clever playing your cards you build your own little reef and gain VPs for it 😊
If you like abstract games like "Azul" you should give "Reef" a try and check it out 👍

Day 2 of @gen_con
1. We did another dungeon crawl. It was really hard!! But a lot of fun. Now we own foam swords.
2. Emerson's mind is blown by all the Star Wars cosplay.
3. Emerson met Emerson Matsuuchi, who designed Century: Spice Road, Century: Eastern Wonders (which we played today), Reef (which we bought today) & more. One of the best parts of GenCon is getting to meet game designers!
4-6. Tim's medic character died while we were playing the new entry into the Forbidden co-op series, Forbidden Sky.
7. Century: Eastern Wonders
8. Emerson admiring Cardhalla, where people build houses of cards for charity.
9. Dinosaur. Tea. Party. I couldn't convince them to play it today, but it will be mine!!!

Just arrived! After our first play of Century Eastern Wonders.
CENTURY : EASTERN WONDERS || Quotable 🤣 "It's like a tidal wave hit this side of the board." || Jury's out on whether my board game lunch crew likes this game better than Spice Road, but responses were mostly favorable. I was the only one to have played before, but I only won by 2 points. That proves how well-designed these games are, I think!
However, the player board desperately needs some kind of overlay to hold the trading posts in place. I accidentally shoved it so many times and caused disaster in the ranks. @topshelfgamer
I'm looking at you guys!
