Week 7, day 2 - I love leg day!
After a long day today, I wasn’t in the mood for this work out. I was feeling sad, and tired, and maybe a little sorry for myself. Which is exactly why I had to get a workout in. I feel so much better. Hurray for happy workout endorphins!

Sometime ya just gotta grab life by the BELLS!😂
In all fairness though life I have learned a couple things and granted I’m only 21, (and have a lot more to learn.... luckily I’m a fast learner) I still have observed 2 important things.🤓
1️⃣ Your ability physically or mentally does not define you. Your work ethic DOES! As long as YOU push yourself in everything that you do, you’ll be able to eventually achieve anything.
2️⃣ Failure is OKAY! It’s a part of life! Sports Psychology says that those who are not afraid of failure and view it as a learning experience to get better are much more likely to be successful! Whereas those who view failure as an absolute or view it as the cap to their performance are not as likely.
Hope y’all had a killer Tuesday! #fitness #embracethesuck #fitnessmodel #kettlebellworkout #kettlebell #exercisemotivation #themoreyouknow #motivation #gymrat #shoulders #biceps #triceps #studentofstrength #shreded #knowledgebombs
There's this ancient letter written to some Romans by this old Jewish dude. The guy writes out this statement saying he continually has to master his physical self in order to fulfill his life's mission. Although at times he wants to quit, he pushes himself so he can completely fulfill his purpose.
The statement is pretty hardcore (and probably politically incorrect) by today's standards, but the Romans responded well to short statements and vivid aggressive imagery, and not much has changed: so in times where thinking is hard (tabata sprints, or hard sparring rounds, for example), short and strong statements can help as a mantra to complete the tough task at hand.
Personally, this statement is something that has helped me during hard training sessions: when my body wants to quit, I must push it. Everyone has a limit, and it's important to learn your body, and it's just as beneficial to learn the quit is much further than the body says it is.
Everything else about this Instagram will be dedicated to things I've learned in my fitness journey and progress in my life, but I did want my first post to be something that is a big part of my training mindset.

Thanks to a military surplus store, I was able to make a very appropriate modification to my Mariposa 60 backpack. #embracethesuck
Thinking about where you've been, makes getting to where you're going much more memorable.
The end goal is great...
But the experiences and tools we've picked up along the way to reach that goal is where the KNOWLEDGE lies.
Yesterday, I posted about my first lunge in two years.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very thankful for it and I'm grateful for such a positive and supportive response I got on social media...
But yesterday was about more than just a lunge or some physical feat I wasn't expected to ever do again.
Yesterday was about conquering a defeated MIND.
A mind that's been clouded with depression, fear, addiction, defeat, and despair.
Yesterday was a clear cut win for the GOOD GUYS!
Not just for me, but a win for anyone who's felt like it was OVER.
This was for you.
Part of my inspiration comes from the thought that I can affect a positive change in one person's life.
This is for you.
Thank you! 🙏

"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." #WeAreUC #BleedGoldandMaroon #UCMVB #FlyUC #TheHunt #EmbracetheSuck #Family #WaketheSunUp #TheProcess #MoveasOne #Brotherskeeper

I have a goal of doing handstand push ups one day! These felt great so next time I will move closer to the box. #progressnotperfection
Easy 35 minutes and strides to follow. I’m surprised at how my legs feel after Sunday. My quads were a bit sore, but other than that I felt pretty normal. On to more training to reach those goals!
Coffee doesn’t ask silly questions.
Coffee simply understands me.
Be more like coffee. ☕️🙌🏼
Pro tip: when your lower back is screaming at you because your posture is horrendous and you didn’t do nearly enough core work in your training. Use your trekking poles and dig into those pressure points ensuring that you can make it another 3 miles before needing to do it again and look super awkward to everyone else on the trail!👍🏻
In other news, I am enrolling in massage therapy school, and will be starting classes next month! After 8 years of being a stay at home dad, it was time to try something new!
Introducing Top Pick Tuesday. Send me your top picks and I’ll tag you in the post. 🤓
Raising Men by @eric_davis215
: my first top pick. This book is fantastic for any parent with kids of ALL ages and not just if you have boys. 🤓
Eric reiterated the concept of leading from the front. Being an example to your kids. How to stay relevant as your kids leave the nest. And how to live a meaningful life that your kids would want to follow. Probably the most impactful part of the book was where he gives his take on the mantra “can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. He eloquently stated that the dog would never have gotten old had he not stopped learning. That was a game changer for me. One that I immediately implemented. 🤓
If it’s important to your kids it then is important to you. 🤓
You cant live “do as I say, not as I do” or you will lose the respect of your kids and your relevance in their lives will begin to disappear. 🤓
And that’s my TOP PICK TUESDAY .

Day 7 of my elk hunt last week and I’m pretty whooped at this point. Enhanced a little to illustrate how ragged I was getting. Believe it or not, I feel so much better in this condition than when I’m showering every day, washing my hands 12x’s per day, and staying “clean.” My hair, skin, and body feel better in this condition: less cracking, dried out skin, less itching parts, more lubrication where there’s naturally supposed to be. A hot shower at the end is awesome but I’m never rushing to get it done. Sometimes the stink and grit are exactly what we need. #bowhunting #embracethesuck #letitbleed #humility #dirtdonthurt #sleepoutside #tentlife #acceptthewayyourbodybehaves #yummy
