RIP Arthur Mitchell. I find myself weirdly emotional at the news of his passing. Mr. Mitchell was a hero to many of us. I post this picture not because I in any way want to equate myself with the monumental achievements and gifts of Mr Mitchell but because of what his life meant to me in a very specific way. I was a student at The Dance Theater of Harlem School during my first year in NYC. It was an honor to have been taught by Mr Mitchell when he stopped by our class and also to witness what he created. For a black man to excel in ballet - an art form that began in the courts of European aristocracy where there was no one that looked like Mr Mitchel and to start a ballet company in a time when blacks were told they didn’t have the body for ballet was a phenomenal feat. When I was a student at DTH the above picture of Mr. Mitchell was turned into a logo for DTH that you could see on top of the DTH building in Harlem. I was inspired by that image. Whenever I wondered if I would make it as a dancer or I was feeling down I would look at that logo. To me, it represented hope and the realization of a dream against all odds. The audacity of a ballet company in Harlem!!! If he could do it then I could find a way too. When I was a minister of a congregation in Harlem for six years (one of my ministry colleagues was an ex DTH principle dancer) the church building was just down the street from DTH and I could still see the logo on my way to service every Sunday. That image of Mr Mitchell followed me for my first few years in NYC! I took inspiration from this image of Mr Mitchell for the logo for my business. That’s the picture below. In ballet there is a movement called Reverance. Its where you give respect to your teachers or the audience at the end of a performance or class by bowing. My logos is a reverence or an homage to Mr Mitchell. The legs and the torso are in the same position, but while he is airborne, in humility and out of respect i stay on the ground. Where his head is up, mine is bowed in reverence to the teacher Mr Mitchell and those who blazed a trail before us. Ljittle things mean a lot. And his life has meant a lot to so many Thank You Mr Mitchell

When was the last time you had mushrooms? The most common types of mushrooms found in grocery stores are: 1) shiitake 2) portobello 3) crimini 4) button 5) white mushroom 6) oyster 7) enoki 8) beech 9) maitake. You can’t go wrong with mushrooms. They’re fat-free, low-sodium, low-calorie, and cholesterol-free. They’re also packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals among which are:
1. Antioxidants: Antioxidants help protect the body from damaging free radicals that can cause conditions like heart disease and cancer.
2. Beta glucan: Beta glucan is a form of soluble dietary fiber that’s been strongly linked to improving cholesterol and boosting heart health.
3. B vitamins: Mushrooms are rich in the B vitamins: riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acid. The combination helps protect heart health.
4. Copper: Copper helps your body make red blood cells, which are used to deliver oxygen all over the body.
5. Potassium: Potassium is extremely important when it comes to heart, muscle, and nerve function. #finishfit #finishitwithfinishfit #finishfitbootcamp #delicious #yum #yummy #breakfast #lunch #dinner #snack #health #healthy #awesome #instafit #instasport #conditioning #food #foodporn #picoftheday #instafitness #workout #fun #eatclean #cleaneating #training #salad #summer #win #winner #eat
