This is not our damage, but a photo of a patient who attended our Beverly Hills clinic, and was treated by Dr Kevin (our triple board certified cosmetic facial surgeon). Whilst she has permanent damage and lost a significant portion of her upper lip, she is greatly improved with filler and SPMU to cover lost pigment from @tina_oxley.
It takes a team. Swipe left.
Her lips were as a result of an untrained medic occluding her labial artery by injecting filler into it, but not managing it properly. It was only the patient herself making it to a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber some days later, that saved her losing her whole upper lip.
Bruising is normal (so don't all start panicking each time you get one!), but this patient was suffering excruciating atypical pain (as her tissue died), blanching, violaceous discolouration and mottled reticulated vascular pattern. Her injector was a medic, BUT not trained in aesthetics and just didn't have a clue how to manage the situation although was aware of it.
Do your research - a respectable clinic won't mind asking you asking a million questions. What are they qualified in? How good is their anatomical knowledge? How long have they been injecting? How often do they inject? Are they full time injectors? Have they been on any accredited complication management courses or taken part in cadaver work? Do they have an emergency protocol? Whom would you contact in the event of an emergency?
We aren't scaremongering, but we see SO many of these - if more of you asked these questions - we're certain that there would be less of them and that's all we want. The best injectors can get the occasional complication, but managing them and making you immediately safe... happens far less than you would like to believe.
If you have been to another injector, and you feel you need emergency help from a specialist - we won't judge, we'll treat you for free, and confidentially. We'll never charge in emergency situations, we just want you to be safe, and the faster you're treated, the better. Email us at email@example.com
